Aftermarket Sirius Radio... Direct Connect?
I let my buddy put a sirius radio in my car while i was at work. I am capable but he felt like playing around so i let him haha.
But he hooked everything up and did a really nice install hiding the wireing and mounting the tuner box behind the dash and what not. But he left it set up via FM Modulator... the sound sucks. So i was gonna go back behind there and hook it up directly to the head unit using the 'AUX' feature on the head unit. I was wondering if anyone knew how that connected to the head unit. Is is like a bus cable or is it the traditional 'red/white' 'left/right' RCA connection. Just wondering about some insight before i rip in to the dash. If it is any different i have the 'AUX' jack mounted under my cigerette lighter. I dont mind losing the use of that if i have to. I only use it for my ipod. I've got a Sirius radio in my '06 Civic: Just run a 1/8" male-to-1/8" male stereo cable from the "line out" of your Sirius radio, into the AUX input under your power outlet (what used to be a cigarette lighter would be). :) (Pics of my install are here: Confirmation that SVC works with the AUX input jack... ) The speed-sensitive volume control (SVC) in your car audio system will work with the AUX input, too, so you'll gain that nice feature in addition to being able to turn off the FM transmitter in your Sirius radio. :) Regards, Glenn in CT |

This is what i have. There is use of the AUX port under the cigarette lighter. It is wired and fused. But with the box i can use the FM Modulator or the RCA cables. Right now it is using the FM Modulator and the sound sucks that way so i wanted to get it using the RCA. Here is the facorty pic of what i have.. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....essories&h=387 |

Okay. So you have no 1/8" stereo cable you can use to get from the box (as the 'line out' is RCA) to get into the aux input jack, is that right? (There's a lot of stuff in the pic of the kit, so it's hard for me to tell exactly what's what, exactly.) Anyway, it sounds to me like you'd want to use the RCA cables from the box, and find a way to get their output fed into the AUX input jack... If you need to get from the RCA cables out of the box, down to a male 1/8" stereo plug, then get a 'Y' cable: Two RCA females at one end, and a male 1/8" stereo mini jack at the other. Plug your RCA cables into the RCA females at one end of the Y cable. Then the 1/8" male plug at the other end of the Y cable would go right into your AUX input jack. Then you'd be done with the FM modulator deal. No? Last edited by GlennS; 05-19-2006 at 08:33 PM. |

Yeah i ended up just gettin a rca -> mini 'y-cable' and just ran it from the xm box through the dash and out to aux input. I would have like to do it so that it was hidden but i guess i will just have to do that when i have time and play with the wireing. But it is a quick and painless solution. Sounds 100 times better than FM haha. But next step is to start wiring the sub/amp. Thanks for the insight. |
