Is it worth it?

I have an EX coupe and I've been doing some exterior mods, but I was wondering if it's worth adding more horsepower. I mean, is there a significant difference between the stock 140 hp and possible 160-170 hp after adding a cold air intake and new exhaust?

those are VERY optimistic gains. You'll prob see 10-15 hp from just intake and exhaust, which prob wont feel too drastic

auto. i'm not too big on the loud exhausts though, so even if I got a nice one I'd put a silencer on it.

This is what I would do... Go buy a huge obnoxious wing, preferably with 2 wings.. Now go to Wal-mart and attach several model rocket engines across each wing and wire it up to hit in intervals to give you max boost for atleast 20 seconds. Just watch out, NORAD might pick you up.

For real though, I would look into getting some NST pulley's and a CAI. It's what I have and I can feel a bit of difference.

Umm, your not going to get up to 160-170 hp. sorry.
Even with the basic boltons which will cost about 3000dollars for quality parts brand new after tax and labour. your going to be at 150hp max. and thats 150 at 6-7000RPM. low end 0-3500RPM you may lose a few or not gain any at all.
But hey, 10 HP isnt bad, and you will feel it.

$3,000? I highly doubt that since most of the bolt-ons can be done without going to a shop. A CAI is very easy to install, a downpipe and/or high flow catalytic converter can be done by yourself. And I highly doubt a catback exhaust will cost too much to install, either, especially if you have friends who can do it or do it yourself. I know that the NST pulleys can be done at home, too. Three grand is a pretty high number for basic bolt-ons.

Yeah, like everyone else said, without spending thousands you're never gonna get more than 10 hp out of that R18... If you want more power get the Si, that's really all there is to it.

i say get some lighter rims, they'll help as much as at least one of those bolt ons for performance and it will help out the look of your car a lot.

Yup. Lowering the unsprung weight is vital to better performance. It's just overall better to do so.

There is no point in modding an auto R18 unless you go big. By big, I mean nitrous since that's your only real option at the moment.. Nothing else will give you any sort of power. Maybe your best bet is gutting the thing down to as light as possible, lightest wheel/tire combo you can get, an amazing suspension setup and you should knock people around at the auto-x's.
