So Sad !
We are getting royally screwed on prices here in Canada.
With our dollar at $1.07 compared to the US dollar, our prices are significantly higher with no sight of any real change from a dealer perspective.

The SI Coupe for instance is WAY too expensive here.
I respect the guys who could afford to shell it out for an SI here.
We are paying $5000 more for each model .... for NO real f'ing reason !

CANADA
MSRP on an SI Sedan is $26,680
MSRP on an SI Coupe is $26,680
MSRP on an LX Sedan is $22,180
MSRP on an LX Coupe is $21,280

USA
MSRP on an SI Sedan is $21,310
MSRP on an SI Coupe is $21,110
MSRP on an LX Sedan is $17,760
MSRP on an LX Coupe is $17,560

If only it were that easy ....
Apparently US dealers are instructed NOT to sell to CAN customers.
When you get to the border, the vehicle has to meet certain criteria and it has to be documented by the manufacturer (which they are not willing to supply).
Plus then we are on the hook for Duty, and the additional taxes.

REALLY humorous considering that ALL Civics are made in ONTARIO, shipped to the US and you guys pay $5000 less ! lol

The only way around it is to buy a slightly used Civic privately in the US and then get it across the border .... Getting it to meet CAN specs and all the documentation, legals, etc ... Just not worth it.

It would only be worth doing on a car like a Corvette ...

Base Corvette in CAN is $69,500
Base Corvette in USA is $46,110

Nice huh ???

That sucks!! Can you explain the Canadian specs, docs, and legals? It's not bringing a car from Japan or Europe to north America?!

Yup, but forget about any type of leasing/financing if u buy in the states.
got to buy in cash, or credit card.
plus even with that 5K in savings, youll spend at least half in customs/taxes/inpections/taking time off to actually go to the states to find your car/installing DRL and anything else needed.
Still im sure there is a few thousand to be saved, but at OUR inconvieniance and time off.

its not worth it for a civic, but a bmw is another story buddy up in toronto saved $17xxx, flew to ny and drove it back, and tahts after bmw issued a memo that they arent suppose to sell it to canadians

It's ridiculous that they can say "don't sell to Canadians" !
In addition to that ... If you buy a Canadian Made Civic in the US and end up getting back into Canada with the 5K savings.... the Manufacturer will tell you that your warranty is VOID.

Honda announced some new incentives today to try to curb the CDN backlash ... lol. I think they are offering $1500 off a civic if you buy it cash.

I think most people here are waitng until Jan as well because one of our taxes (GST) is dropping by another percent .... YAAAY.

Makes about a $200 difference in buying a $20,000 car.

The US 08 Civic meets the three keypoints of Canadian requirements:

Daytime running lights
LATCH system
Metric speedometer/odometer

There are currently no duties on the Civic.

It does not "take" a huge amount of work. The bill of sale with VIN should show the above three items, that covers the mfgs statement requirement.

Been there, done that...takes a couple of hours work and if you are close to the border, it is a snap. You lose out on the incentives/discounts and you can not lease (at least not easily!!!), but it is possible to save that $5,000 PLUS the savings that you get with the $1.07 dollar.

The same around here ... the GM plant is about a one hour drive from where I live and the prices are way too higher compared to the US ... My Honda is an EXS ( there's a different trim level for the one that has 6 airbags ) and it costed me 20,400 USD ( 218,000 pesos aprox ) ... The Si Coupe goes around 26,200 USD ( 280,000 pesos )

I am not sure if this is true only for dealers close to the border or all dealers. For example, a dealer in Rochester, NY and another one in South Florida were willing to sell me a brand new Civic as long as I was paying in full for the car.
