LX/EX 5-sp. shift knob replacement?

I can't stand my '06 LX 5sp. plastic shift knob. It's not designed right. My hand doesn't fit over it or under it properly, and the plastic material makes it slippery when trying to shift quickly. The damn thing gets on my nerves. It's a crappy design. What do you guys think?

I wonder if the Si shift knob would bolt right on or if you 'd need a whole new shifter. I want an all rubber shift knob like my '01 EX has, or all leather. Or anything that's more round other than this asymmetrical concuption I have now.

Actually you hit on one reason I went with the automatic coupe. I don't like the feel of the new manual civics except the SI.

Im sure the knob off of an 01 will fit it if you like, theres also unlimited aftermarket shift knobs available to you for purchase. It just unscrews.

close but not exactly the same. the s2000 has a six-speed pattern (and red markings, i think).

I'll probably look into getting the Fit accessory shift knob too, if honda doesn't charge an arm and a leg.

the smaller, weighted shift knobs ROOL!!1

As an aside, folks are still calling the manual a 5-speed. Note that does NOT distinguish it from the automatic, which is also a 5-speed.

Yes it does because hardly anyone calls their auto, a 5-sp. Most people say I own a Civic LX/EX Auto.

My old Datsun 280zx had a 3 speed automatic. :face-icon The best shift knob I've ever felt was one for my friend's older brother's Lexus. I think I'll probably replace my Civic LX's shifter knob if the cheap plastic feel starts to bug me. Ever driven a Miata? Now that's a knob to get used to...

Yes I have. I 've driven or auto-xed a '91 Miata, a '94 and a '99. Oh I drove a new Mazdaspeed Miata too last year when I was instructing a novice driver (racer). I can't for the life of me remember what the Miata's shift knob(s) looks like!! I don't pay attention to that when I 'm racing I 'll have to go look at a few Miatas at tomorrow's local race event and with some luck maybe I 'll drive one again

The knob is barely big enough to fit in the palm of your hand, and there really isn't a lever, the knob is the size of the entire thing! The throw is so tiny and cute, it fits the Miata perfectly, ha ha ha. The one I'm thinking of was a 1996, not any of the new ones, but I imagine their throw is also petite.

that 's right. I did sit in one that was for sale this past weekend and then noticed the knob, and it came back to me. There 's almost no lever but it's actually there. It's just that it's very small, like 1" above the base or slightly bigger. The knob is probably longer in diameter than the lever. I looked at 2 different Miatas last Sunday and they all had an aftermarket shift knob so I didn't look at any more, but I got the idea

Got My Momo Working...

You guys are probably already aware of this but while surfing around the other day, I noticed that there are dozens of really great looking shift knobs pictured on the Momo website. I can't imagine not being able to find one you like here. Check it out at http://www.momo.it/tun_shiftknobs.html.

i thought the following would be a little humorous.

the first coupe 5spd i test drove had the shift know upside down. when i told the guy about it, he said that was how it was supposed to be. i told him to throw it in 1st then (by the knob), and see where he went...

He did, and he couldnt believe he went backwards, he almost hit someone's car.

I went to another dealer after that... insanely funny.

There are too many car salesmen (including one at the dealership I bought my LX from) that know NOTHING about the cars they sell. Funny story.
