R18 vs D16
seeing as how people have made mad numbers on the d16 SOHC VTEC, how do you think the R18 will compare??? will the R18 be the next D16??? opinions, comments, flaming... whatever.. personally, the R18 is the new technology and i think that if companies work with it, they can really make this a bad ass engine.

K20 > R18
B18 > B16 > D16 B18 > R18 > D16 B16 >? R18 At least that last one is my guess anyway. I didn't include the D17. I think it's pretty close to the D16 tho. I think you should have started with an Si if you wanted performance. |

It's a prefix for an engine code of the family of engines found in some late 80's/early 90's Integras and Civics.
More info on the D-family of Honda Engines here: Honda D engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think my d16z6 or was it d16a6? in my old stock 88 crx si could outrun my current R18.
Im pretty sure of it, to add insult to injury, i also got 500-600kms on every 45L gas tank. BUT, my crx didnt have power windows, locks, AC, any airbags at all, and was pretty rough, rugged and noisy compared to the 8th gen civic. I think the newest civic is comparable to the 94-97 honda accords ex which i also had. |

give it time and im sure itll happen but in the end im sure the R wont get the same support as any of the older single cams, be it the Ds or even the Fs, just because the difference in the i-VTEC SOHC and the whole low-end-engagement stuff ass opposed to the traditional high-end-engagement
in the end though its like the old saying goes 'theres no replacement for displacement' |

Honda Mag took the engine apart a while back:
"Bolt on the fuel rail, drop the mill in, and we're done. 140hp and 129lb-ft of torque, that's a 1.8L motor with LS power and Type R torque. Not bad for a base model, huh?" R18 Engine - EGR Valve - Honda Tuning Magazine click the last photo caption. I'd say there is room for improvement, but I think we will reach the risk is higher than gain situation rather quickly. |
