Lightbulb Blue Ambient Lighting

I'm posting it in this forum since it pertains to just Civic EX Coupes.

I was wondering if the ambient console lighting comes standard with your car, or if it's a dealer installed option. All the brochures, catalogs, and websites I've looked at says it is a standard feature for the EX Coupe model. But when I searched on this forum for assurance I found a lot of people putting the kit in themselves, I was wondering if they weren't EX coupe's, and they just wanted the lighting? I couldn't find any more information with what they posted, and their profiles were empty as well.

Anyway, I have a Coupe coming in about 2 weeks and I just wanted to know what to expect. Also, any pictures of the toggle switch and/or the lighting would be cool to see done by an actual owner. (Not honda sites that make it look better than it probably does)

Well, there seems to be a big confusion about what the ambient lighting is. For the EX coupe, there is a small blue LED where the moonroof controls are. That comes standard. What you keep reading about being installed afterwards is different. That is under the dash.
Hope I helped. Seems like you have already, but you can search around for pictures of what I'm talking about.

Hmm, I just thought map lights were up there by the moonroof controls?

They are. The LED is right between them.

Okay thanks, but for some reason I cannot find any pictures of this, it doesn't look like many people are reading this, except of course for you Cameron. But if someone does have pictures of this and could post them I'd appreciate that.

cameron is right - i picked up my new coupe on thursday, and it has the teeniest, tiniest little blue light in the middle of the moonroof controls. i only noticed it because i searched for it, and i have no idea if it is at all visible in the dark.

i thought that this was going to be the underdash lighting as well - oh well, another $50 in the mix...

I like that LED where the sunroof controls are. It provides just enough light in the cup holder area so you can see your cups/mug/bottle without it being distracting while driving. Personally, I think it was very well done.

The Si has a red light instead. It lights the cup holders and mainly the 6-speed very well. Looks awesome at night while driving. Very well done I think.

that is suppose to actually provide light? Mine isn't even close to bright enough to light anything up, maybe I should get that checked out!

I kinda like it. Gives my ride a nice blue glow while I'm driving home from work at night.

Pointbrink, if you want some pics, I can take some and PM to them if you want...as soon as I get home from school

Ahh great... thanks for the link.

So I guess it's about $100 for that subassembly. I've done a little custom led stuff in other capacities. I may actually take a peek behind the existing assemblies and maybe work up a little DIM (do-it-myself) :O

of course I'll post up anything I undertake

Yeah, I've pulled it apart and looked up there. I'm pretty sure you could drill that little piece out, throw an LED in, and run a couple of wires. Shouldn't be too hard. A DIY would be great.

Ambient light pics

Ok, I have the ambient light pics on my photobucket since I was a little lazy to resize.

http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y43...34/Civic/?sc=3

Pics include:

- Where the light is located between the two map lights
- dark shot of the light on
- dark shot of the light shining on my hand
- shot of the light on during the daytime
- shot of the light on my hand during the daytime

Ambient light won't turn on unless you have your headlights on; I just took the daylight pics to show how bright it is. Wish I can get a night shot since it adds a cool blue glow around the shifter area.

sweet... thanks for the pics.

Does anyone know if there's a downloadable guide, detailing how to get into the existing lighting area up there? I'd rather not do a "trial-and-error" session if I can avoid it.

I'm pretty sure it's in the link I posted earlier...but here it is again just as an easy reference.

for this ambient light thing, is there a switch to turn this on or something? i see it can't be turned on without the headlights so... where's the switch?

edit: is that the toggle on/off switch right next to the light?

It turns on with the headlights. That's the on/off switch. The "toggle" switch you see is for the moonroof.

All that little light is for is to light up the cup holders and gear shifter. It is not suppose to be bright. Thanks for the pics.
