Nitrogen in tires?

Has anyone tried nitrogen as opposed to regular air in their tires?

If you did, did you notice any benefits?

thanks in advance.

It's nitrogen and the only real benefit to it is that it's completely dry where as air has a lot of moisture in it. Oh and it makes your wheels lighter and adds 10 HP.....JK

i was thinking i had heard it was lighter..so in theory it would mean less rotating weight and increased mpg

not to mention the 10hp...and we aren't talking about sticker hp

I pour gas in my tires.... So if I run out of gas, I've got 4 wheels of reserve.

Benefit of nitrogen in tires: Less pressure variance as temperatures change.

Downside: cost.

^^yup i heard like five bills from the steelership
tires last longer
lighter---so more mpg
and also a lesser chance of a blow out it keeps your tires cool

It's only useful for those that actually race.

Yep, it really only helps if you're trying to dial in a specific pressure that you want to maintain around the lap of a course (road course, autocross, etc).

Not really. The weight of the gas in your tire compared to the weight of the tire itself is negligible.

As for the idea of it keeping your tires cool, no material carried within a tire can "keep it cool". Also, the heat capacity of pure nitrogen compared to regular air is negligible when considering the tire itself.

It will not leak as much as regular air so less air pressure checks and refills. However do not forget that regular air is around 75% nitrogen already, so its not going to be a huge improvement for mpg.
