1st Oil Change and...something's different...

So I just took my car to the dealer today to get my 1st oil change. Mileage: 6266 miles. Oil %: 10% was left. Before when I accelerated I'd get this kick in the car which I absolutely hated. Now, there's no kick whatsoever and the ride seems more smooth. I haven't done a search on this yet so I was wondering if any of you had this happen to you as well?

usually after your fist oil change, the ride is smooth compared to before. You waited a bit long to change your oil, since the dealership usually uses the regular oil even though they claim they use synthetic. also, since it is a new car, there's usually bits of material and other things from the engine which also affects the oil. Should have changed your oil at around 3k. maybe since u watied long, there was this kick. just my idea though. (the kick my be the dbw lag also)

Going by the maintenence minder was the correct move, although I recall the manual tells you to change at 15%.
It is strange that this "kick" is gone after an oil change, but I'm glad that it's now gone!

I think its all psychological, unless you oil is so saturated, and thick that is take longer for the pin to lock into place to actuate that third lobe.

yeah it was at 15% when i scheduled my oil change and then it went down to 10%....I wasn't sure if I needed to change at 3k...i just went w/ what the little digital thingy told me...but next time do you guys recommend me to take my own synthetic oil to them? I dont' feel like doing it myself...its only 20 bucks for an oil change at my nearby honda dealer so I'll just let them do it..

Go by the maintenance minder, unless you clean and polish your shoes every 2 weeks too, Iron your shirt after using it, etc. etc...

The kick could have been from colder weather? I've noticed outside that its warmer now. I used to get a kick on acceleration after I started my car. When it warms up it goes away.

Usually going by the maintanence reminder is the a good guidline, but not for the first oil change. If you actually look at the oil, it will be black and probably thick as hell. changing it at 3 k [u]for the first oil change[u] would be safe. But now since its over, u should use synthetic oil and go by the maintanece remider.

I had my first oil change at 5,000 miles. The manual states break in oil is added from the factory, so unless I get some hard proven facts, then I'll assume that's the truth.

It may be just the placebo effect, however the only thing I noticed was the engine seemed more for a lack of a better word, "calm" at high revs after I added Royal Purple.

The user manual specifically states to hold off on the oil change especially for the first one. Look around on this forum and you'll find that the oil from factory contain additives to break in the engine.

What do you mean by "kick'? Do you have an auto or manual?

Auto....when you accelerate there's this pause before it goes and then suddenly jerks you....i think Yodum's word-> "calm" is a good way of describing how it's changed...

Could they have also changed your transmission fluid while they were doing your engine oil change?

I just bought my Honda Civic LX Auto. I feel a kick sometimes during exceleration. I figured it was due to the fact the Gas pedal is electronic (drive by wire I believe it was described). Just a thought.

Hey, i experience that kick you are talking about, in fact there are tons of threads about this. We're all hoping it's the "R18 reflash" that will smoothen the transmission so the car can be more enjoyable.

Is there any way to ask the dealer if they did anything other than just the oil change?? I still have that little kick/pause and i HATE IT. Please help me ask, thank you!
