Manual vs. Auto

How slow is the Auto vs. the Manual R18? The last generation civic auto only had 4-speed vs. the manual 5spd. But the 8th generation has 5spd for both the auto and manual... so how much slower are autos?

Roughly 2 seconds difference in favor of the MT, obviously. Auto EX 10.1 sec 0-60, don't remember 1/4 mile, Manual EX 8.6 sec 0-60, don't remember quarter mile... Both values attained from 2007 Consumer Report New Car Guide, very helpful book. A better value could be attained with the manual obviously since R&T got a 7.7 in an LX MT, so an excellent driver could get around an 8 sec 0-60 in a MT EX.

how does getting an SI answer his question? The question was auto vs manual on the R18.

Generally speaking, Automatics for Econo Boxes are not designed to be perfomance. That is, get the stick if you want your car to move.

If you look at the Honda website, the MPG is 1+ for AT vs. MT. It used to be the other way around. Honda must have made significant inprovement in the automatic transmission for that to happen?

......and if you look at the Honda Canada website, the MPG is 1+ for MT vs. AT. I'd say MPG is a toss up......but save yourself $1000 and run 1.5 seconds faster 0-60 not to mention a MT is more reliable and more fun to drive.

........there is NO WAY IN HELL an R18 could run a 7.7 second 0-60. My Intrepid R/T was rated for the same 7.7 second 0-60 and would absolutely DESTROY my R18 in a race (244HP vs 140HP, 250ft/lbs vs 128ft/lbs). Trust me, I've driven both, and I'd be embarrassed in a race driving the R18. I bet that same driver with that same timing equipment would run a low 5 second 0-60 in the Intrepid (hahahaha, right).

well at 90 degrees i ran a 17.7 on the 1/4 in my Auto r18. just depends on what you feel like doing though..do you feel like shifting gears all the time? the manual will be alittle quicker though but not by much

NA
MT > AT

w/ Turbo! !
MT < AT

I have heard somewhere that AT might be better with super and turbochargers.

Is an AT better with a Super or Turbo?
