Parking Lot Catastrophy (almost)

So I was pulling my '06 Coupe EX into a parking garage recently. I stopped to pull my ticket from the machine, but didn't notice the protective post they positioned (oddly enough) after the machine. I can understand why they put one before the machine - it keeps you from taking out their machine - but I didn't notice the second one. Careless and stupid of me. Anyway, as I got my ticket and proceeded forward I heard the terrible sound of my driver's sideview mirror being nearly ripped from my car. Feelings of immediate dread and panic set in and visions of a few hundred dollars leaving my wallet filled my head. Fortunately, the mirror casement didn't pull all the way off of the car and the power mirror function still worked. Later I decided to give the Mickey Mouse repair method a chance. What the heck, if it didn't work I would have to buy a new part anyway. Low and behold, against all odds, a little two-part resin epoxy fixed her up nearly as good as new.

The lesson is, as always, I am stupid. However, isn't that why they designed foldaway mirrors? Why not on the Coupe?

I have wondered this same thing. I park in a monster parking lot and people are ALWAYS walking beside my car. I would love to have break-away mirrors.

Why didn't they do this and why does my car bitch-slap me when I use my sun visor? lol

Doesn't the sedan have the folding mirrors?

Sorry about your visor problem. I've never had that happen with mine.

I have to say, I've had no problems with mine in 11 months of ownership and consistently average 33-35 mpg in mixed driving.

I wonder a lot of things.

For example, why we don't have leather options, why the side mirror turn signals are hybrid only, why Americans don't get heated side mirrors, why Canadians get a trunk lock (on some models), but most importantly, why we don't have folding mirrors when almost every other new car I see does .

People are bastards and don't care about other people's property. I will die when I see my side mirror hanging in a parking lot

I've got a test for you.
  1. Pull your viser down
  2. Unlatch it and move it as if you were going to block the sun coming through the left window
  3. Take a left hand turn 'spirited' (don't just grandma-turn it.)

Now, please report back and let us know if you get a 'bitch-slap.' I think its fun to poke humor at this little design flaw but honestly, its dangerous. The visor blocks my vision, I have to take my hand from the wheel and ALL in a turn! UGGGGG

Folding mirrors are great! I use mine in times like last Fri when I parked and the street width was greatly reduced. Saved my car from getting owned while someone else's was.

Coupe's don't fold because they are attached to the car in the A-pillar window. Style over functionality went the path of the Coupe designers

so many cars have their mirrors attached to their A pillar that still fold. My last civic had the fold away mirrors.

The sedan mirror frees up that spot, thats how we get the mini-windows

Why don't we get power folding or heated mirrors here

Yeah it can be done, but they chose not too.

Although I love my care I wonder why:

No light in the glove box?
No light on all window buttons?
No light on vanity mirror?
No covered change bin?

I mean, really, how much would these things have cost?
