Do people give you a hard time about...

..driving an automatic? ( for those that do )

I haven't even had my car a week and all of my male friends and co workers are giving me a hard time about not getting a stick. Part of the reason I got this car was because I hated driving a stick shift around town. Plus, every car I've owned before this has been a stick, so it's time to try something new!

It's not a friggin race car, so why MUST I have gotten a manual shift? If someone could explain this to me, b/c now I feel sad inside

There's no particular reason other than the satisfaction of shifting and slightly faster acceleration. If you don't enjoy doing it then there is absolutely no reason why you should have gotten a stick and you definitely made the right decision to go with what you want. Who cares what the other guys think dude? You got an auto because YOU wanted to.

BTW I drive an 07 coupe EX MT, and I love shifting more than anything. My dad, on the other hand, had driven a stick for countless years and finally opted for an auto because he was burnt out.

Key their cars. That'll teach 'em to laugh at you.

Honestly, who cares if their harrassing you about driving AT? That's your preference.

I am guessing your friends and co-workers are:

(1) 'Younger' folks
(2) Immature folks
(3) a combination of both

I can't think of a workplace in which I have been in the last 15 years where that topic would even be a point of conversation...

Of course, if you worked in a car shop, race pit, or other area where 'cars' would be a normal topic of conversation, all of the above is void.

I used to drive a 1996 Volvo 850 platnium turbo. people(younger) would be like "oh it's a auto". then the car was pretty quick running mid to high 13's. then they were all excited to see a quick auto Volvo doing that. :)

I learned how to drive on automatics and that's what i've been driving ever since. Then I got my Civic and opted for the manual. Its fun, but sometimes I'm feeling worn out, but I still enjoy it though.

Hey I have an automatic. I choose to have an automatic over a manual because this is my daily driver and I don't feel the need to go fast with this car, I've simply outgrown that kind of passion. My track car has a manual transmission though.

Unless you guys live with your girls i dont think you should have let them be one of the reasons why chose auto.
Anyway tell your co-workers to suck a c*ock. I'm sick of people and their "swearing by stick". I drive stick and it doesnt bother me but i hate when people act like stick is god and start to worship it and bash others for not having it. I guess its because i valet park and i swear every valet parker is a stick d*ck rider.......... All i hear all day is " the next car that comes on stick is mine" then the other idiot "no its mine" sometimes i wanna say damn stick is nice and all but whats wrong with you idiots. And i swear if one of the workers show up in an auto car the first thing out their mouth is "why you aint get stick, auto is slow" Anyway i guess some people dont understand that its okay to get auto and that stick is nothing special unless you want it for the feeling (i know it tends to run quicker times due to gear ratios, but who's on a racetrack?).

Traffic jams + manual transmission = BS. If I had to deal with traffic jams on a regular basis, I'd be driving an auto too. I bought a manual because there were a few downsides to the auto: $1000 extra, worse fuel economy, power robbing, and less fun. After driving a manual for a few years though, I personally got burnt out and I bought an auto as my summer car. It's great having one of each, kinda balances it out. I can't drive a manual year long anymore, I start to hate driving after about 10 months of it straight.

+1. They do give me a hard time about owning a Honda, regularly. Most of my friends won't even ride in it, so it wouldn't matter if I had an auto or stick.

Well thats better for you anyway. Having people ride in your car all the time puts a ton of wear and tear on it. BTW what do they all drive, not scion Tc's right, lol.

Same on the highway, the manual is better in the city.

Taken from Honda's website:

M/T - 7.8/5.7
A/T - 8.2/5.7

I'm sure the reason they're the same on the highway is because of the high revs of the engine mated to the manual tranny at highway speeds.
