I doubt many of the 18-21 year old here have done enough research or reading to know that a modern cat is MUCH less restrictive and power-robbing than units from 15 years ago, but it's a useless cause. Presenting the info to this demographic is one thing... Getting them to retain it is another. Anthony "Mario" Crea NNJR-SCCA |

Then again, I can't really say that ANY inline 4 cylinder I've ever encountered produces a "decent exhaust sound" whether on the street, the autocross course, or a road course... Especially the Japanese motors. Porsche's big 3.0L 4 cylinder in the 968 was quite cool. But overall the firing orders of most modern 4 bangers just isn't conducive to a magical exhaust note, even when uncorked. Certain 6 cylinders are smooth and bellowing... Especially BMW's inline 6 and Nissan's VQ-series motors. A small block Ford or Chevy V8 speak for themselves. A V12 Ferrari at WOT (wide open throttle) going down the front straight at Lime Rock Park will give you goose bumps... But NOTHING on Earth can prepare you for the sound of an F1 car in person. My God, it still makes me smile when I think of the first moment I heard them at Montreal in 2004. :) THAT's an exhaust sound. Anthony "Mario" Crea NNJR-SCCA |

^thanks for the well thought out reply, i have a catback and it indeed made a difference i guess i am just picky when it comes to how i want her to sound. and im sure that the super restrictive R18 wasnt the way to go when choosing a car to do mods too, i just wish there was a way to get the sound i want without having to do total brain surgery by building a header/cat/test pipe(whatever you wanna call it) that will give a more deep, free flowing sound.

Honestly, Borla mufflers are tuned to be deeper and not as "raspy" or "buzzy" as other exhuasts are. See if they have something available, or maybe something universal for now. Anthony "Mario" Crea NNJR-SCCA |
