Going beyond maint. reminder with Mobil1 synthetic oil and filter?

I just changed my oil with Mobil1 5W-20 synthetic oil and M1-110 extended performance filter. And I was wondering if I could go over the point where maintnence reminder comes on, which is about 6.5k mi driving.

I drive my car 95% of the time on the freeway in nice California weather. I shift around 3k mark almost all the time unless I need the extra juice for short freeway ramp and such. I put 19k mi just in 9 months so that's a lot of freeway driving and I think it will be more this year. (60mi one-way 5 days/week)

So I was wondering if it would be possible to obtain proper protection with same oil for about 10k mi which I will put within 5~6 months, 95+% freeway driving. My last car, Nissan sentra, was recommended to do oil change every 3750 miles, but I "did" the lab test with OEM filter and Mobil1 synthetic oil at 8k miles and results were very good. At that point I said I'm getting enough out of it and continue changing it every 8k miles or so.

I'm thinking to do lab analaysis at 7k mark and if result is good do one more at 10k mark, but that's like $50 so I don't know if it's worth it to even bother. So do you think it will be OK to go about 10k with fully synthetic oil with better filter?

I don't see it as a major problem, especially since the MM was designed with dino oil in mind, not synth..

Also, the MM goes on at 15% which is the recommended oil change. You'll probably be at 10K by the time the MM reads 0% which is still ok, but cutting it close.

PS: Modern lubricants provide superior protection long after the old 5K mile recommendation.

you should be alright at 10k oil changes with synthetic. it doesn't break down as fast as dino oil.

I don't think it will hurt to wait for 10k or so. I have Redline in my Si with mobil 1 filter and I will probably change a 7.5k mi...I redline a bit too...I think 7.5k is beyond safe with a good synthetic..I would think 10k is ok too if your not beating the hell out of the car...

Certainly not a bad thing to change every 1 mile too, but it will get expensive...I think most of us like to get the most from our products...Especially with the high cost of synthetics...I mean why use synthetic at all if your changing every 3k miles (and maybe you dont use synthetic?)

Not trying to be rude. Just my .02...

If the tests you've done show that the oil is still holding it's properties then all you need to worry about are the acid levels and the amount of dirt particles that are being held in the oil. Since you use a high quality filter I would stick to the 8,000 mile services. After all thats what technology is supposed to do for us, allow us to get more from the newer and better formulated products.

ok after review of the posts i think maybe i will start changing my oil every 15k because everyone says it really doesnt matter... jk reminds me of the gas mpg threads "some will only use reg cause it doesnt matter" well i dont like the sound of knocking so i use premium, but maybe my car will run longer if i use regular i think im switching back...have a great day!
