LX 5spd coupe first tankful
I left the dealer with a full tank and 16 miles on the odometer. Even though they tell you that you get a full tank of gas, I filled up on the way home. It was pretty full and only took .8 gallons, but I wanted to get an accurate measure of the mpg for the first tank.
Results: 343 miles on 9.329 gal = 36.77 during my first week of driving. This car will never see redline or vtec unless I have to pass some jackass doing 40 in the fast lane. When I drive my wife's TSX, well that's a different story.

heres my situation.
i live on long island new york i own 2006 lx coupe MT ive read everything about saving gas mileage from the a/c being on when the defroster is on to not warming your car up for longer then a couple of minutes and driving consistently below 3thou rpm here are my results: here in New York we've been having mid thirties in the weather depatment i filled up the tank about 3 weeks ago drove 100miles filled up with 5 gallons almost exactly thats 20mpg, i did the same again(different gasstation) and got 21mpg, now im letting the tank go to the end and i have 5 bars left and 286miles on the odo. i drive to school and work(bymyself, nopassengers) which makes it about 60% town driving and 40% highway. so can anyone please explain to me where my gas is going. i even took it to the dealership and they did all their tests and found nothing wrong...throw me a bone someone. |

Just filled up and got 21.8 mpg in my EX.
but that's because it has been between 10 and -10 the past week. Lots of idling the car, and with the snow we got yesterday there was a lot of wheel spin. but still, I was disappointed to watch those bars fall so quickly... 124 more days until the first day of summer... |

I'm from Texas and have never been to Long Island. I imagine that my impressions of the place are probably colored pretty badly by what I've seen in movies or on TV so please excuse my ignorance if I'm totally off base. Basically, what I visualize for commute traffic in your part of the world is pretty much bumper to bumper running, slow stop and go type driving. If you're doing 60% of your driving that way, then you're spending a LOT of your time just idling and that does nothing but kill fuel economy averages. Under those condition, 20 to 21 mpg, while it may be on the low side, doesn't really surprise me. By contrast, I average pretty close to the same ratios but my "city" driving just means that I'm cruising in the 35 to 45 mph range with an "occational" stop sign or red light. I spend very little time in actual bumper to bumper, stop and go traffic and I'm generally averaging between 32 and 34 mpg. Our temperatures are also quite a bit milder than what you have to contend with too so there are a number of factors involved between the two of us that are giving me an advantage. Again, my apologies if I'm off in left field with this but I am curious as to a more detailed description of what you're defining as "city" driving in this case. Good luck & Drive Safe, Steve R. |

FYI PEOPLE
7 month old LX coupe 24k miles 2 days ago i made a 500 mile one way trip, recorded an average of 49.1 mpg over 6 hours on the trip with my ScanGauge 2. I then drove for an hour around hotels and walmart and other city driving locations before getting back on the highway. The whole trip was 9.5 hours, with 1 hour of city driving and the rest highway 49.1 mpg average highway I rolled about 475 miles before getting gas, and i still had 2 clicks on the gas gauge CAN I GET A HELL YEAH PEOPLE |

Averaging 31MPG with 75% city driving according to my Excel spreadsheet I have kept since I bought the car October 16th 2006. Drive around in 5th gear in the city whenever possible. Average 40+MPG on the highway driving between 65 and 70MPH (no cruise).
