I had to make a run to the store and the car was warm. My Civic is also a 5MT so it made doing this test easy. I also used my scanguage to give me the instant mpg. One level ground, no load, no wind and temps in the mid 50's. I drove the car at 900 to 1000 rpm in 5th gear. Just off idle. The scanguage showed 36 mpg as long as I didnt move my foot on the throttle. I then sped up a tad to 1300 rpm and held it steady. MPG was then a stable 57 mpg. This was repatable going and coming. In my mind that proves the lower end of the vtec operation. Testing the top end of the rev range could be more challenging. psy |

I drive an 07 Honda Civic LX with manual transmission. Its approaching 2000 miles on the odometer.
I drive a lot of city, but I cruise and I shift at around 3000rpm. My fuel economy seems to be getting steadily worse. My best was I believe 26-27 mpg combined with more city driving. I am now averaging 24mpg. I am angry, and I have complained to the dealer twice. First time they performed an electronics test, no problem was found. Second time they told me that 3 techs would drive my car each for 30miles and they would observe the fuel economy. There was a misunderstanding and after leaving my car at the dealer the whole day they told me they only performed the electronics test. I was like WTF!! All f#cking day for just that, and they lacked communication. They went so far to assume blame on my 18" Volk Racing TE37 wheels with 225/40/18 tires which are only 5-6mm (1/5") larger in overall diameter than my 205/55/16 tires. They called them oversized wheels. I was thinking what do you think you get when you buy 18" HFP wheels? Worse!! They claimed my exhaust was aftermarket, I told them its only a oem muffler from an 06 Si. I think almost every person with an automatic transmission is getting much better fuel economy than a large number of those with the manual transmission Civics. I get an average of 24mpg when I drive normally as always. I am taking steps to getting the dealer to perform different tests. Maybe in the future they will offer me an Si at a discount. I met another guy at the dealer he owned a blue Si with the HFP suspension and muffler. He said he was getting 25mpg average, combined in his 06 Civic EX I believe. And he said he traded up for an Si, which also gets 25mpg. |

I do mostly city driving in my Ex auto coupe and 25 mpg is about as good as it gets, i don't drive hard, no jack rabbit starts. I think the EX's addl equip puts the weight up, so the car isn't going to get 30 in town. on the highway I consistently get about 36 mph.

I have an ex coupe manual and I get about 33mpg. That's because I have to go thru at least 10 speed bumps from my apartement coming in and out and them a few lights and minor hill. I'm happy though b/c i don't have to spend that much on gas. YAY!
