if it would make the tranny fall apart after a few times they wouldnt put in on it. sure it will lower the life of the tranny..but its cuz your driving it hard, as long as u dont redline it and make it hit the rev limiter your should be good. i havnt looked at it in the manual but i doubt they will even mention it. the L1 and L2 gears are made for going up hils and stuff with a load like if u had a car full of people trying to go up a steep hill you drop it down so that it doesnt up shift and you not make itup the hill. i did it all the time in my old car (a pos already) and it didnt mess anything up. i did it in my truck too 83 silverado..

Mods:
AEM CAI
35% tint
debadged
chrome-coated reverse and rear turn lights
LED license plate lights
LED courtesy lights (not OEM)
a non-OEM horn from O'Reilly (Highway Blasters high and low)
Philips BlueVision high and low beams (they're really just very white, much better than stock)

My mod list for the next 3 months:
Magnaflow catback
Cusco 3-point strut
Si sway bars, front and rear

Oh, and the accent piece: an rearview mirror air freshener that says "Dirty White Boy" :-D

Oh oh, and I like the pinstripe. No dissing the pinstripe; it goes well with the HFP rims.
