free oil changes??????

hey guys just wanted to ask a q.
my sales dude told me they will pay for every other oil change, like first one will be free second i will pay and so on, u think its true or it was just a sales pitch (lie)?

also i took my car on the freeway for the first time as i am over the break-in period (finally), well i gotto say i am really impressed with the R18 , i tought it'll be weaker, and it really performed good at every traffic conditions, i guess it's really true a graphic i saw about how it mantains a larger hp output trouoght the rpm ratio, and i am averaging 26 mpg, wich i am happy about, cuz i used to drive a 92 acura legend 2.0 6 cylinders, wich had a lot of pull but was at least 1600 lbs, heavier than my civic , so i find myself doing 0-60 at the same times,
and the legend gave me like 16 mpg, so no complains there, i was having second toughts about why i didnt wait to get an si, but now all the doubts are gone, civic is the best bet for the buck. before i knew i was going over 80 mph, it sneaks on you, so i am a happy camper,
please help me with my question up there.

I guess it would be good if you dont like to change your own oil. If you were to change your own once and then for to the dealership for your next one they probably wouldnt honor it because they did not change it. Are you paying Extra for this or is this something your dealer offered you for free.

i dont rev high at all, i usually shift at 3000 or less, and i started this tread a couple months ago when i was in the breakin period still, i was really babying it back then shifting at like 2000 to 2500 rpm, back then was 26 mpg, now i am averaging 23 to 24 mpg all city,. so not good at all, i hope it improves after first oil change,.

I change my own oil. Because quite frankly, i don't trust them clowns.

You know who they let change your oil? some 17/18 year old kid with no regard to your vehicle and have no experience. The same kid who they let road test drive you car & wreck it once the real mechanic finish fixing a particular car. The same kid who will scratch up your car, break minor things, don't even care to put a new filter in if it's too difficult to get to.

The real mechanic doesn't touch your car for simple crap like changing oil. All the grunt work goes to them intern/high school kids they hire.

For the same price ($31-$32), i'd rather do it myself with Mobile 1 synthetic oil.

P.S.
I'm not lying :/
I know a guy who work at Honda dealership and recently moved to Ford. He's 19 and still in Pennco Tech. All of the horror stories he tell me and what the dealership let them do is just scary. It's pretty standard that "if they (customer) don't know, then the work has been done"

some of them will clean the old filter up and make it look like it's a new one they installed. all the tricks he told me how to do it is just crazy. It's a dirty business.

my bigest fear is taking the car to the dealer for oil change and getting it back without oil cuz one of those kids just got sidetracked and forgot to fill it up, or tought he had already done it, then i pick the car up and there goes my engine,

i wish they would let me take a chair and sit right by the srvice bay, so i could monitor every single move they make, that would make me feel better( i am not kidding lol).

Honda does it too. If every dealer went by what the manual suggested, then they would just drain the oil and add new oil there - the filter is untouched until a B service, which is essentially every other oil change. It's kind of up to the dealer what they want to do, since I've seen some people post that they had their filters changed on an A service.

They're just trying to be environmentally friendly.

Most people who do their own changes aren't doing it to save money, but more so to put themselves at peace of mind, knowing everything was done right by themselves.

If it alarms you that much, then you should probably do it yourself. The layout of the R18 is really simple and oil changes are a piece of cake on these things.

most of the time changing the oil in a r18 is waiting for the oil to drain out of the pan. Easiest car I have ever changed the oil on.

my brothers civic which is a 2002 is still fine even with all the oil changes done by the dealership =). just depends on where and who does it! this dealership in santa margarita, ca is quite a nice place!

sorry for the late reply to the one who asked if I paid extra for the VIP program. actually it was given to me free of charge. just know how to negotiate with dealers and they will give you the price of the car that you want.

reason i dont think i'll do it myself, is because i rent an apartment and they dont allow people to work on their cars in the garage, plus the garage floor is not level it's incline a bit, but if it wasent for that i would do it myself since i've seen how accesible the the filter and oil plug are.

p.s. i am not in my 20's anymore, my hip is still all messed up from the fog light install i did a couple months ago lol, so ya that's another reason.
