1st oil change

Planning on going with Mobile 1 synthetic for my ex coupe, on another thread somebody commented on not using synthetic on your first oil change. Is there any validity to that statement? Thanks.

Absolutely not. Do a search on this forum and you'll find a million posts on this topic.
Oil changing is like sex; everyone knows someone that knows someone that has done it this way or that way, so that's the way it should be done.
You need to figure out what works best for your car. You may want to consider the following: your driving style (aggressive or more defensive), budget (synth usually costs more than dino), driving service (many short trips or long trips), etc.
By the way in Consumer Reports conducted a test in 96’ (Mobil 1 was available back then)on NYC taxis with rebuilt engines. There were three groups of cars whose oil was changed every 3k mi, 6k mi, 12k mi . The engines were disassembled and were inspected for differences in engine wear, sludge build-up, etc. CR found no appreciable differences among the three groups.

I jumped straight to synthetic oil for my first oil change. As mentioned, lots of people here have done it, so don't sweat it!

That is such a 'car forum' myth. There are a number of cars that now come with Mobil 1 fully synthetic direct from the factory. There is no need to 'wait for X-miles' to pass before switching.

Yeap that is a huge myth, there are plenty of sites that say using synthetic right away don't hurt a thing. Plus it keeps the and keeps the saudis from getting rich off us. LOL

I went with Q Full Synthetic (since thats all the dealership had at the moment) on my second oil change. It feels better, like the engine sounds smoother when I get higher in the RPM range.

Went with Mobil 1 5-20w on my first oil change. Haven't noticed any performance change.

my take on this is, long long ago car engine were not built to as high a tolerance in machining compared to now with advance in technology and robotics. So the engine piston, cylinder etc are closely matched to a more exact level and yes you can go straight for fully synthetic. Enjoy.
