Red face New Civic Coupe LX - 140 CRAP SOUND SYSTEM :( Need help to change

I just bought a new civic LX. I have 1 question.

Firstly, THe sound system sucks.. I should have bought the EX which had the upgraded version... Anyhow.. anybody have suggestions on how I can change this... Like I am planning on going to Best Buy and buying 1 small sub and 2 bass speakers and replace the rear 2 back speakers. This way I will keep the front two as is for high freq and the rear for low .. I knw the Accord sound system is sweet, but does anbyody knw if I do this change will it sound somewhat like the accord ? or will it be stupid ?

I know the accord has this insulated and live feeling when you crank the sound system, so I want to do some changes but not too expensive in order to improve my sound system in the civic

Sorry just to CLARIFY... SO my current LX comes with the standard 140 Watt Crap sound system... DOes anbody know what I need to do to make it like the CIVIC SI 350 Watt sound system... Like what do I need to add/remove to get that type of sound system.. I was thinking of going to best buy and doing this as it wil be cheaper. I knw I should have just bought the EX, but anyhow, I just wnat to try to fix this now.. please share any thoughts

All you need is a subwoofer or 2, a box to put them in, an amp, an amp wiring kit, and a LOC(line output converter).
oh and of course a little knowledge.
...move to I.C.E Forum.

I just got my LX Sedan, and I am surprised how poor the tonality is in the stock audio system. I'm doing a total revamp of the audio system (look at my profile for a brief description), but if I was asked what to do first... I'm thinking that I'd want to at-least add some tweeters, or some drop-in coaxial speakers. The high frequency response is horrible IMO!

Just to let you know, if you would have bought the EX instead, the only difference would have been the sub...

Hate to knock the car, but I was expecting a little more from the stock stereo. Course my last car had a Bose system in it... Oh well, something I can upgrade.

Umm...EX stereo is 350W system with 7 speakers, which includes the tweeters as well..I heard my buddy's LX and there is a difference.

As for swapping the stereos, I am pretty sure you can just do a swap. The sub woofer bracket is already in the LX. U'll probably need the rear deck though. A cheaper way would be going with aftermarket..IMO.

I'd like to see what the OEM sub looks like. I assume it is in a plastic enclosure in the side of the trunk?

Yes, change the stock 6 1/2" speakers out and you'll notice a huge difference. I have an Si...and the stock radio is good, but that's all disappearing Saturday. I can't wait.

Actually, the sub is at the center in between the two rear speakers.

I wonder if the EX speakers are different from the LX model? ... since the watt rating is different.

I have the EX and have wonder if it is worth upgrading the two rear speakers too?

Does the sub fire through the rear deck? Is there an enclosure around it?

I'd bet the entire system is the same; just with a sub and sub amp added.

Not for the driver. The rear speakers do little for the front seat passengers.

Think about how you would like the system to be better... Louder? Clearer? more bass? better midrange? better highs? ...then take a targeted approach to upgrading the system.

The "600 watt" rating referrs to their power handling, but is actually a lot more marketing BS than an actual spec.
As long as the impedence matches the OEM speakers impedence, you can use them without bothering the amp inside the headunit.
Keep in mind, better speakers (with a higher power handling) as a rule, need more power to get to the same volume (i.e. they are less efficent). If you do not plan on adding an amp, I'd choose something near the entry-level offerings from an aftermerket manufacturer.

i have a 06 lx sedan, i also thought the sound system can sound better(turning it up is not a good idea, not even good) so i put back in my two 12'' mtx subs in the trunk. turned the bass on deck console down to -2, treble +6, and my subs mid range. sounded aloooooooooot better!!!!

only complaint is that the back where the two back speakers are located next to the windows start rattling like there is no tommorow. deffinatly embarassing when u roll up next to someone and ur car is rattling and its a new car. so i just took towels and stuffed it between the plastic and the window. problem solved
