How to properly clean salt grime off carpeted floor mats?

Hi guys,

I have a bunch of what what looks to be salt grime built up on my floor mats from all of the snow and ice we have been getting here. Is there a preferred method of cleaning them? They are making my interior look like crap.

I thought about just hosing them down at the car wash when it warms up, but I wasn't sure if it was a bad idea since it could lead to mildew.

Thanks!

There's Armor All Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner with Oxy Clean that works well. Never tried it myself but heard good things about it.

Steam carpet cleaner.

Do a search, it is your friend...

Interior detailing, long time OVERDUE

..if you just have all season mats, just use vinegar mixed with water, it will dissolve the salt, and wipes right off.

Wow...that's fantastic, Adrian!

I have rubber mats on my baby but the snow/salt can creep into the sides of the mats when the passengers aren't that careful. Gotta do something about it soon (the mats, not the passengers. Well, maybe the passengers, too).

Love the disclaimer at the start of your thread, too!

Steam carpet cleaner or wet shop-vac. Will need to get them very wet to extract the salt so might as well show no mercy. Soak them down with strong detergent and work it in with a stiff brush. Rinse with clean water then vac as much water out as possible. Let them dry face-side down if possible.
