First Oil Change Woes

I know this has been discussed quite a bit here but I feel that my situation is a little different so I feel that I should ask the same question over again.

My LX 4dr has 3900 miles on it. I bought it in mid may. I've heard around here that you should wait on the first oil change because the factory oil has extra moly in it. My issue is that I'll be driving the car a little over 1000 miles this week. Is 5000 miles too many before the first oil change? Part of me wants to give my baby some brand new smooth flowing synthetic before the big trip, but part of me thinks I should wait. The oil isn't terribly dirty, and there's plenty of it left (still near the top of the dipstick). What do you guys think?

5000 miles is perfectly fine. A lot of people in this thread had their first oil change at 5000 miles.

I'm going to be bringing in the car for its first oil change in the next week or so. I currently have 7100km on it which is approximately 4400 miles. I'll bring it in at around 5000 miles and then get the oil changed every 4000 miles afterwards. My oil life indicator currently says the oil life percentage is 30%, but I'm not sure whether to trust it or not.

Why not try going the full 10,000 miles like the one posted here. http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/...=003273#000000

I personally think that 10K was somewhat excessive, however. I think that 5K-6K is perfectly reasonable. I would run regular dino for the first 10K-15K with perhaps 5K intervals before you switch over the Synthetic. Then that 10K interval should be no problem at all.

I personally am going to change the oil every 4K-5K with regular Pennzoil up until 12k-15k, and then switch to Pennzoil Platinum.

As long as you use an SM rated oil, a quality oil filter, and follow what the manual suggests for an Oil Change Interval (OCI), you really can't go wrong.

Do what will help you sleep better at night , and enjoy your road trip this week
