why an R18

so I was looking at an si at the honda dealership and when i went to buy it, the looked at it and who ever owned it before destroyed the clutch and replaced a bunch of stuff, long story short it was in horrible condition.

So i seen a R18(coupe) and I am considering buying it.

this leads me to my question, why did you get your R18 instead of an si?

Well Im a speed fan but I own a R18, I kinda wish still that I could have gotten a Si but hey I'm happy with what I got. There's pro's and con's to both.

Si: Less MPG, I would guess higher insurance, awesome interior, K20 motor and what not.
R18 simple, easy to drive, gas saver, and it isn't really a bad car. I just wish I had a EX.

Overall you should ask to test drive the car and then see if You like it.

i love the R18 motor, cause i know it has potential that has yet to be fully explored... aside from the motor, i didn't need all the extras...

honestly theres more potential to be explored in the dohc k20 than the sohc r18

go with the si if you can afford it

i read alot of posts around here that people wish they would have gone with the si

-Cheaper Insurance
-More Reliable (concerning transmission, etc.)
-Uses cheaper gas (87 compared to 91
-Higher MPG
-Cheaper MSRP
-Easier to sell, most likely depreciates more slowly than the Si (more people are willing to buy normal civic than Si)
-Automatic Transmission is an option

Honestly, they are not that different. The Si does have a little more power, but I feel that the advantages of the R18 outweigh the disadvantages. If you want the stiff handling of the Si, it should not cost much to switch in the Si parts... same with the wheels.

if you really want some power the tsi turbo kit could help you out and you will be faster than sis while still getting over 30 mpgs if you drive normally (no boost)...also the lx weighs less but it also doesnt have rear disk brakes (problem)...research the cars (this site is probably the best info) and dont jump into something without knowing the consequences

sis look pretty cool if exterior is a selling point for u

Because the R18 is faster, more powerful, and handle mods better than the Si. Wikipedia--a very valid source--supports my claims.

is the Si's insurance a lot higher than EX?
is it depends on coupe or sedan?

in my place, i am paying around USD488 for my VTI(EX) but if i drive a Type R, i have to pay USD2300 per year for insurance

well i guess the debate between EX and Si will keep going on and on
for me, i will say, i am poor and can't drive the FD2R, i love to have one but can't afford one

same as if i buy a BMW 3 series, i love to get a M3, but can't afford one, so will settle with 32xi or whatever

I rushed into it 2 years ago since it was my first car. Even though I'm paying for it, I wished I wouldn't of rushed. I don't regret it 100% because I get really good gas mileage and don't have to pay for premium. It's a great car, but their is times when I want the Si performance. Maybe the 9th gen will have a better Si.

$5k stealership mark-up (CA) did it for me. $18k vs. $25k (before financing), plus a long commute down there led to my decision.

Now that I'm back in WA, I will be checking into removing any CA emissions stuff and adding FI, exhaust, intake, suspension etc...still will come out cheaper in the long run.

Not sure, yet. Still considering getting another CRX and just building the eff out of that for fun! Man, I miss her!
