Loud screeching from 2006 EX Sedan

Guys-

Today I started my 2006 EX sedan and I hear a really loud screeching sound. It gets louder as I turn the wheel in either direction. The AC is working OK and the sound happens when the AC is both on and off. It also gets louder when I press on the brake pedal. I can hear it echoing off other cars when I drive by them, so I know this is loud.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks-

Jeff

PS: I've also noticed that when I turn the car off, there is a steady hissing sound coming from under the engine. No leaks though. I have been using the AC very often. I live is PA and lately we've been having super hot and humid days.

why the heck would it be a lemon? and if you got your Civic this year, chances are, it's made in Canada.
just bring it back to the dealer. i'm sure they'll investigate the problem and perform any repairs that are under warranty.

any sound that gets modulated when you turn your steering wheel makes me think check your power steering fluid level and pump. but the changing with pressing the brake pedal doesnt make sense unless its changing the rpm on the engine and that changes the sound.

on my "Who is most annoying list?" VICHONDAEX, is bumping himself up +5 on every post.

On topic:
jwoertz, I know it's late but when are you going to take your vehicle in? I think the hissing is just the A/C compressor. But, that other noise is disturbing. Have you checked your Power Steering fluid yet, as ethlar pointed out?

I had a loud screeching from my front end and it turned out to be a blacktop cinder stuck between the shield behind the front rotor and the rotor itself. I managed to get it to roll to the bottom of he shield by hitting the brakes hard a few times. Then I pried it out with a small screwdriver.

That's exactly what it was! I took it to my dealer today and they pulled the rock out while I waited. They said it happens all the time.
Thanks everybody, problem solved.

I guess my QA background is paying off. They need to fix the design on those rotor shields if it happens all the time. Mine sounded so bad I was ashamed to drive the car.

i had a bad screcthing every time i turned the wheel to the left.. i though it was the breaks

brought it back and it ended up being a heat sheild rubbing on the wheel bearing..

they replaced the heat shield..

honda is awsome when it comes to warrenty work
