2009 honda civic vs 2009 mazda3

Hey all i just joined 8thcivic and have a question for all the civic veterans here. im going to get a new car as an 18th birthday/high school graduation/going to college present sometime next year. ive narrowed it down to the 09 mazda3 and the 09 civic ex coupe which will be out by then. i would say im almost sold on the civic except for one thing... i dont know if ill like the two tier dash thing. its a small worry but its enough to hold me back a little. im wondering if you guys could give me some insight on what the digital speedometer is like? is it cool? (it looks cool in pictures) does it look good at night? can you get a glare on it during the day sometimes? i know i could just test drive it and check it out for myself but i wont be buying the car until next year and thats when ill check it out too but i just would like to know about it now. as far as the mazda3, the exterior is nice though i like the civic better, and the interior i think is sick and better than the civic interior. appreciate any help guys.

Hmm..I too looked into the mazda3 before I purchased my Civic. The dash is a bit intimidating to look at on the passengers side, but not too bad on the drivers side.

I'm a huge fan of the speedometer on the Civic. I found the Mazda3's dash to be bit distracting and did not like the red lighting with the plain dials. The Mazda3 was comfortable and had a bit more power than the Civic, but it did not ride as smoothly in my opinion. Interesting, but the glove box in the Mazda3 was huge. You could fit a decent sized laptop in there.

You really have to take them both for a test drive to truly know. The Civic gets better gas mileage, which was a major plus for me.

I test drove quite a few cars due to the fact that my dad gets decent discounts on certain brands, such as Mazda and Nissan. Eventhough the Honda was going to be a bit more since there was no company discount, I found it to be completely worth it.
