Noob needs mod info
I recently got an 06 ex sedan. I know it's not an si, but i have kids and Im on a budget. The Expedition EL was draining my wallet in gas. $600.00 a month for gas is toooooooooooooooooo much. So on with the questions.
I'm looking to do some upgrades on the engine. I was looking to do an intake mod, changing the ground and positive wires to 1 gauge since I'm installing an audio system, and aslo would like to know with the air intake do I need to change out the throttle body? If so what do I change it too. I was on a website and it had like 4 or 5 different ones to choose from. Im not a mechanic by any means but I can do simple things like intake and stuff like that. I just need info on what's the best stuff to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also any other suggestions on mods to get mor hp and better power would be great. I know it's only a 1.8L so we're not workin miricles here but I would like to do somethings to upgrade. I'll be starting my audio system soon, stuff on its way, so I'll be posting pics as soon as I start that. Thanks All! |

Well if you're gonna do an intake, the brands don't really matter much. You're just buying the name. If I were you, I would get a short ram intake, so you don't have to worry about sucking up water and hydrolocking. As for other mods, maybe invest in the HFP lip kit. Get a header and do your exhaust. Get some wheels and tint, and call it a day.lol. Hope that helps.

xx - ok you lost me. An HFP whosie whatsi? What is it and what does it do? Oh and most important to a father with a budget, how much does it run? What kind of header would I get, and by exhaust are you talking about the one that makes the car sound like a souped up ninja, loud? I'm not sure on all this stuff. I used to have a huge F350 Diesle supercab, and I had chips and dual exhaust, and filter systems, and all kinds a crap but I knew about that and trucks. I'm not a mechanic so when it comes to this stuff with a car and just engine stuff in general I'm not very knowledgable. SO any info is great info. Thanks. And what does it mean to suck up water or hydrolocking? I think sucking up water is self explanitory but how would that happen to a filter syster in the engine compartment? Like I said not very knowledgable. Sorry! |

Technically the R18(engine code for the LX/EX coupe sedans) does not have a header, the big thing you see is just the catalytic converter and the "header" deletes that. Generally exhaust make the car louder but certain types are designed to allow more airflow while also keeping the sound levels down. Hydrolocking is when your engine sucks up water and locks up because it doesn't allow air into the engine. If you get a CAI( cold-air intake) it moves the intake filter behind the bumper to take in cold air instead of the hot in the engine bay hence the name. Since you have the filter behind the bumper it could possibly allow water the be sucked up if you drive through a flooded area or a super huge puddle, anyway you screwed. Short-Ram intake like CAI takes away the restrictive air box and tubing assembly and replaces it with a high-flow filter and tubing but instead of being placed behind the bumper it is inside the engine bay with a heat shield. Hope that information helps you out some and wasn't too confusing or poorly typed, lol. Check the stickies throughout the forum for more specific information and other topics not discussed. Enjoy the car and welcome to the Ocho. |
