Smile Newbie buying Civic-Vancouver

Hey guys i'm new to the site and i am planning to purchase a new 08 civic in the next few months. I am still a student so i want to get the best deal available. I am looking to purchase a DX-G or LX, i really want the EX-L but it is kinda out of my price range(30000 after tax) unless i can get some really good deals. Do any of you guys know any good dealerships that can offer fair deals and doesn't try to rip you off? Also what kind of deals can i get off these models? a few hundreds or thousands or the retail price?

Also, i want to add some accessories- interior trim kit, fog lights, and maybe some spoilers. But they are all very expensive, are those prices negotiable? Or should i just purchase them aftermarket? if so where can i find these accessories other than the honda dealership? i am completely new to this so i appreciate any help. Thanks alot!! love the civic!

I would suggest go to Vancouver Honda. EX-L is $30K after tax? Man... That's too expensive. You can get an Si with a lil' bit more money, IMHO

def. buy used if you're so concerned with price.

pick up a used Si from the states, you'll get twice the car, for half the money... yes it'll have maybe 30-50k kms on it, but its a honda, they run forever (eventhough these models are poorly assembled - but i've got a beef right now) and you'll still get at least 1 year warranty (in the states)

as a student buying a new car and getting approx 25-30k into debt is a BAD idea

also, you may want to look into what you want and what you need, if $$ is an issue, fogs, body kit/spoilers, etc. add nothing except looks (fogs are a tad functional, but not necessary), they're just a waste of moola, if times are tight

try looking for an lx-sr. same features as an lx but with a sunroof and rear disc brakes. it is a compromise between the lx and the ex-l.

around $25,000 total (automatic). or just buy used. good luck with your search!

With Honda (and many manufacturers) US warranty isn't applicable in Canada. Your warranty gets voided the moment you register it in Canada. How else do they try and stop people importing cars costing almost half as much as they do up here?

not true, a US car will have warranty in the US with Honda America. it is not valid in Canada, true - except for some companies which include toyota and BMW

why do ppl not buy US cars and bring them up? lazy? stupid? afraid of lack of Canadian warranty - i didn't import mine, and i don't know which one of those classes i fall into - but never again

it'd be a pain to have to go to the states, true, i know i don't have the time to spend doing that, but then again, i barely have time to go to vancouver honda to get work done on it... but for someone who has at least 1 day off per week, its totally doable

also, the arguement you made makes no sense, why would Honda America want to stop canadians buying their cars - they're not interested in not offering and upkeeping the warranty - Honda Canada doens't want it, thats why they don't honour the warranty (also for other business reasons... but i won't get into that), they want you to buy canadian cars... where you register your car has nothign to do with the warranty, that wouldn't void a warranty

That's not true!!! msgr is right. If you buy a US Honda cars and bring it to Canada, once you register the car in Canada, the warranty will void in the US and Honda Canada won't accept your warranty as well. Basically, you will lose your warranty if you import any Honda cars from the US to Canada.

If you want to keep your warranty, you can by not registering the car in Canada so you will use US plates.

US Honda wants you to buy their cars but there are agreements between those two companies so they don't hurt each other.

I guess, if you're very concerned about the price, get them used. Like 06 EX or 07 Si Sedan would be more affordable for you.

If you mean the lighting kit from Honda don't bother, talk to Habby about custom LEDS for your ride.

What do you mean by trim kit? Is it the dashboard trim (silver trim)? There are lots of mod lists for your civic so you don't need to stick with honda brands.

where did you get this info from, b/c a) it makes no business sense, and b) i've looked into importing new cars, and many companies don't have this rule

where you register your car should have nothing to do with the warranty - i could see Honda US getting sued for this one

Call Honda Canada & then Call Honda USA...That's where I got the info from.

Honda Canada will only cover a US purchased car if you once lived in the US and then move to Canada. And they require a pile of paper work to support this.

Most of the stores are located in Richmond. There is Garage Five, where I got my filter from. Again, 8thcivic sponsors are awesome.

Perhaps you should call and check your facts. Have you tried asking south of the border? Our Canada East forum will have tons of storiesabout people asking for quotes and being told they couldn't sell to Canadians. Thats why you have to buy slightly used.

Why does Honda have this rule? because of the price differences. They want to make it as difficult as possible to import. otherwise, everyone will just import and the Canadian dealerships will just sink.

In theory it should have nothign to do with registering your car, but in practice it has everything to do with it. We'vehad people sue about the big price differences, but with no luck. Manufacturers claim we have more stuff in it. I mean come on, look at the latest Mercedes catalog and one of the first things it talks about are all the features CANADIAN Mercedes customers get... which is again a bunch of bs.

this must be a honda thing, as toyota and BMW have zero problem with people north of the border buying, registering, and insuring cars up here and then still having warranty. This is a dumb move from honda as i know for one, that my family will be purchasing our next car as a toyota instead of a honda due to the differences in warranty (north america wide vs. US/Canada) - but then again honda is doing a lot to drive away a family of 5 honda/acuras, but that's a different story
