1st gear 'pop-out' issue

we've all heard about the 3rd gear issue... what about 1st gear?

mine, if not pushed in 'fully' pops out of 1st gear...

third is a bit notchy... but it rarely pops out...

to be brutally honest, i'm kinda sick of this car, its not a honda, its a canadian built piece of junk. engine is great, trans is poo (linkage was poorly designed, i don't think the feel is as good as it should be, my gf's 99sir is better)

anywho, she'll be going back tot he dealership for:
1) this issue (i'm pushing for a new tranny, parents 98 accord needed a new tranny, and vancouver honda were good about it, much better than jonker honda or richmond honda)

2) new radio (mine has the clock running really fast)... nice of van honda to replace it - they offered when i mentioned it

3) my passenger door rattles like a whore's... ok i don't know where i'm going wiht this one, but its a piece of crap. overall i'm not happy with the longevity of this car anymore... i'd have thought it'd be built better htan this, and i solely blame the canadian manufacturing plant for it.

give me the engine on a blank chassis (think arial atom) and i'd be a pig in sh!t... but i'm not

anywho, anyone else with 1st gear issues? i hope van. honda will continue to treat me as well as they have done previously... unfortunately, this will be the last honda i will own.. yes, i will buy my father's US made TL-S in 2-3 years, but after that... i dunno, maybe not the last honda, just last canadian made car ever!

It has very little to do with the Canadian assembly plant. The Alliston plant has won several awards, if I recall correctly.

The Civic is just built poorly. Argue that til you are blue in the face with me if you want to, but it is. The materials used are questionably subpar, rattle prone, and excessively wear prone.

The transmission and engine in this car are both made in Japan, so the shitty transmission is Japan's fault, not Canadas.

I know of just as many problems in Ohio's assembly as I do in the coupe assembly. All these people do is assemble the car. They don't pick out the parts or where to scrimp and save money (though take a closer look at your Civic, and you'll definitely see where they did).

This is not meant as an insult, as I certainly agree with you on almost every accord. I've never heard of the first gear popping out issue, but I've heard of problems in second, third (obviously) and 4th-6th. The transmission is just crap. I hate saying that because it shifts so nicely (when it's not grinding) but the car just needs a lot of things fixed out before I'd ever consider buying another one.

Still, I can't help but love it when I look at the Fiji Blue paint freshly washed and waxed on a summer's day. But we all know aesthetics doesn't always mean anything...

I guess ive been lucky that I haven't had anything significant other than a replaced CD player. The third is a little notchy while warming up, but not nearly enough for me to complain... The shifter is still the most precise ive seen among many cars, especially in this price range.

When all else fails, just repaint your shift knob witht heone in Ring pop's avatar.

I dunno Wells... I've never had my 1st gear pop out. Maybe wait for the Canadian TSB for the 2nd/3rd gear fix to come out and complain about 1st too?

PS - Love the use of "poo" in your post.

Well, I havn't had my 1st gear pop-out, but 3rd has grinded/popped several times and 2nd gear is also notchy.

I got it taken care of by Westwood Honda. It was a 1.5-2 day repair job. Replaced 2nd & 3rd gear, sleeves, bolts, and transmission fluid. The service guy showed me the bill which came to $1789 /w tax!!!

Thank god it was covered under warranty. BTW, the dealership also tightened my clutch and e-break. Furthermore, they pumped up my tire pressure and vaccumed the inside of my car, wohoo, lolz. Overall, I am very happy with the transmission so far, no grinding/notchiness and it shifts very smoothly =D I'd recommend u definitely ask the dealer's mechanic to replace as many gears as possible before warranty expires, which would make the repairs very very expensive.....
