Finally got my SI

I ordered in early September and finally picked up my SI on Dec 23rd. I am really enjoying the car...handling is excellent, love the interior and digital speedo, the 6 spd is sweet, and VTEC makes me smile (this time I have the real thing...traded my Base RSX 5 spd.). This really is a fantastic car!

So overall I am a very happy SI owner. However, there are a few things I am bummed about;
* no car alarm (the fob has power door lock button and the car honks when you lock the door...but no alarm...how much would it have cost for a Honda OEM alarm???)
* no VSA (stability assist would be nice in this winter weather)
* no trunk release button on the key fob

Here is the part that burns my butt...the above 3 items are all included on the US SI, but not the Canadian SI. I can't believe Honda Canada took the time to manage a different BOM (bill of materials) for the Canadian version built in the same plant as the US SI's. Finally...why don't we have the ability to buy NAVI? It's not even offered. So...thanks to Honda Canada's brilliance we Canadians pay more for a Car that isn't as safe (no VSA), is less secure (no alarm) and has less features (no power trunk release) than the US version...grrrr .

Glad I got that off my chest...now I'll go back to planning my first mods. Thx.

Tell me about it, what really annoyed me about the CSX is the fact that there's no VSA

Hi Lloyd!!!

I totally understand your issues with the standard equipment on the Si. Just VTEC and you'll forget that you don't have all those goodies!

Hope to see you at one of our meets!

BTW - What color did you get?

(NVM... I see you ordered a GG. Sweet... the Si rainbow is nearly complete!)

Yes...I got GG. It wasn't my first choice though. I was lusting after the Hab Red for months...but by the time I decided to order I was into 2007's...and Honda Canada discontinued the Hab Red for 2007 (in favour of adding white). I was bummed....of course in the US all colors are offered.

All in all though...I like the Galaxy Grey. It still looks good after driving in the rain for 2 weeks...my black RSX would be a mess after 2 weeks. Plus I like it cuz it is more stealth than any shade of Red. I would have to say that Hab Red is still my favourite color to look at.

Question

A few mod Q's for you with some SI experience;

* I need to buy an alarm. Any recommendations? Has anyone used an alarm install as an excuse to put in a after-market powered trunk release (off the key fob)?

* Any experience with a short shifter? What brand? I had a Revo SS on my 5 spd. RSX and it was excellent.

* I'm planning to get a set of sticky summer tires. Maybe Yoko AVS ES100's? Anyway...I'm going to get another set of rims so I can leave the all seasons on the stock rims. I am considering getting either the 17 or 18" HFP rims (bought in the States of course!). Any advice on the size to get would be appreciated.
I am willing to give up a bit of ride comfort...but not too much. The relative price between 17" and 18" tires/wheels is not a consideration. I want the best balance between (in priority order) performance, daily driver comfort, and looks.
All feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would recommend a Autopage Pager alarm. So far I think I am the only one with a powered trunk release. I installed the power trunk some time after the alarm install.

Get a 2-way pager system like a Compustar or Clifford. Best to talk to 604_ep3 about this because he has a shop in Richmond. He installed a trunk release solenoid and programmed it on his aftermarket alarm keyfob. Unfortunately, you'll need to go aftermarket if you want trunk release.

Selection is quite limited at the moment. The most popular one at the moment is Comptech.

I would say 17" just because if you plan to drop it in the future, you're less prone to rubbing. But for the price of HFP rims, why don't you go aftermarket? I'm sure there are similar-looking rims out there for a fraction of the price.

I got my trunk release solenoid from the wreckers(cost $0.00).

Ok...thx for tip. I may decide to drop it (slightly) in the future. More than likely though...I will go with the HFP suspension, which is fine with 18's. I had progress springs on my RSX and found them a little too harsh....cornering was great though. This is why I am thinking the HFP matched spring and shock setup might be the best.

Are the HFP wheels really that expensive? I will buy in the states...I have friends and family in WA state...so it isn't difficult. The price of the wheels at Handa-Accessories is $174 for 17" and $226 for 18". I don't think that's pricey for what I have heard is a good quality rim....looks good with Galaxy Grey too.
http://www.handa-accessories.com/civext06.html

Not sure how the weight of these compares with other wheels in this price range.

Will I notice any difference driving...between the 17's or 18's???
