Wait time for BLK Civic DX-G/ Dealer messing with me?

Hey guys hows it going? So here's my story first time buying a Honda.

I used the APA to get pricing on a 4 door Honda Civic DX-G and I was about to head to the pre-negotiated APA dealer when a friend at another Honda dealership said he'll take my APA paperwork and show it to a sales rep to see if he can beat it.

I get a call Saturday morning April 26th from the dealer saying he can beat the APA deal. I ask him if he has the vehicle and he says no but it will be here in week. I say ok and I go down there spend 2 hours working it out and I end up getting monthly payments of 272 for the Civic.

I told the sales rep I didn't need the car till May 9th since I'll be going on vacation from May 1-8 and plus at the same time I'll be locked in for Aprils deal while being able to grab Mays deal if it was better. I leave the dealership with the signed form and I put down a 500 dollar deposit.

Deal was done on Saturday April 26th, sales rep said he'd call me on Monday with the VIN number. Monday comes he doesn't call so I call him and he says he doesn't have the VIN number yet, I try both on Tue and Wed and he says he is still waiting on the allocation list from Honda and he doesn't have a VIN number.

Whatever so I go on vacation, while I'm in Punta Cana im still thinking about my Honda. So I decide to give them a call on May 6th for an update. Sales rep tells me he is still waiting on the list from Honda! Now Im starting to get worried since I was supposed to get the VIN number a long time ago.

I get back from vacation and leave a message on May 9th. He surprisingly called back and says that he has good news that the vehicle will be available next Thurs or Friday and that he'll call me on Monday with the VIN number. I dont know if I really believe him. I asked him if he was sure and he said yes Black DX-G right? I said yep, manual. He said yep just make sure to bring a void check and Ill call you on Monday with the VIN number so you can give it to your insurance company.

So what do you guys think is going on? Why couldnt he have given me the VIN on Friday. Is there a long delay on Civics and is he just not telling me? The thing is I would understand if I got a straightforward answer that it would take a month but getting told yeah yeah it will be here every week.

If I dont have a VIN on Monday Im planning to call the bussiness manager to ask for a firm date or refund and OMVIC if that doesn't help.

What do you guys think? Am I overreacting?

yes, take the papers you have to another dealer. altho i believe your being a little pushy, no offense. typically the sales person will call you constantly, but reading your story its the other way around. wait for him to call you back and if he doesnt, go to another dealer. make sure you get your deposit back. can i ask you what a DX-G is?

It's a DX with a/c, power locks, remote entry, cruise control, and some other things.

But there's a also a DX (with a/c) trim between DX and DX-G

Relax i know how you feel, i bought a 07 NHBP Civic EX, the sales guys said he should have it in a week the week turned into 7 weeks. The longer it takes the more likely you will get one from the factory. So Fresh So Clean!!!!! Plus i think Civic models other then the Si are harder to find in manual from my experience. I know you are anxious to get the car, it will come....lol! This gives you an excuss to read everything on this website now before you get the Civic. Have fun!

My Si was quick since it was in stock, I bought on a Saturday, drove off the lot on a Tuesday. For cars that's not in stock (ie the dealer's lot), yeah it would take some time.

Sometimes dealers trade cars with other dealers instead of making you wait, but that takes time, costs money and affects their bottom line.
