When to switch to Synthetic Oil

Hey guys,

My car is still pretty new only 1500 KM, 90% oil life. I'm looking to switch to synthetic in the future. When is it good to do so? On the next oil change, or should I at least run regular oil for another cycle?

BTW what kind of synthetic are you guys running, any problems, good to know especially for the winter months.

i switched when i got to 5000KM.... i haven't gone back to dino oil.... i'm at 18 or 19,000KM now... on my 3rd synthetic oil change.

i don't take it to the dealership for oil changes... it would cost a ridiculous price.

i buy my own oil and filter, goto a shop and pay them $10 to get it done... for $10, it's not even worth it to attempt to change it myself... i wouldn't even know what to do with the old oil!

i seriously think that all this talk of using synthetic oil in our new civics is a bit over rated.

Run you car to 15% and then you can put in whatever brand you wish.

I have run Mobil 1, Amsoil, and Royal Purple without problems.

Claims of like 5 H.P. increases with synthetic I question, but the increased protection offered by synthetic under extreme heat conditions make it worth the extra $$.

Look for Mobil 1 on sale at Canadian Tire or Wal-mart. It happens all the time.

I'd just wait till your first oil change.

I've been quite happy with the mobil 1 purchased on sale at Canadian Tire

your car needs 5w20 though. Canadian Tire has that on sale right now for $16.99 for a 4.4L jug of motomaster fully synthetic (what I put in my girlfriend's LX sedan).

LOL my friend use to just leave a jug of labeled old oil at the entrance of Walmart service depots in the middle of the night. I think Canadian Tire takes it in legit now too, but hey for $10 I'd rather some one with a good lift do it. Which garage is it?

Yhea i'm thinking about engine life longevity more than anything else. Here are some other benefits for those that want to find out: link

Thxs for the specific change/sale infos!

Any place that changes oil must dispose of old oil for you by law if you bring it in, even if they didn't service you.

Sorry man.. I dunno if that is really Fully Synthetic.. think about it logically.. why would anyone sell a full synthetic 4.4L jug for 17 bucks..

I run Amps oil only.. everything from the full synthetic to oil filter.. and when I drove it off.. I swear it has never felt so good.. not even when it was new.

I haven't done a full oil change for 10000km now.. because I've been trying out something my mechanic said.. and its true.. AMPs oil.. as long as you keep it topped off.. you could probably run it for 15 - 20k easy. I just checked my oil last week.. and the colour was still GOOD!.. other synthetic brands that claim "full synthetic" turned black when I changed the oil at every 5000km. And for anyone who is questioning this just as how I did before... BMWs require an oil change at every 20k km now.. the standards have changed depending on the type of oil you use

Enos Oil
Motul Oil

Best oil you can use for your car... i tried them all.. surely big difference with these oil. So much smoother and car runs freely.

Castrol actually provided me oil for the season running on 0w50 syntec... I have a R18 and that grade of oil seems to work great on my set up... Maybe i will opt that out to Motul 300v 0w50 this summer

I personally would never run "0w" for summer

but I heard good reviews on Motul... then again.. your oil change will be around 100 bucks if you get the right filter too lol
