Ridiculous! Raised insurance premium

Note to all viewers: This is a Canada East thread, so please, I know rates down south is a lot cheaper, so no need to remind me of how pathetic Ontarion drivers are.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd say this is unfair and unjustified.

Yesterday I received my insurance renewal (due in one month) and was expecting a drop in my premium because I'm turning older and another safe year of driving has passed. Voila.....$29xx, an almost 10% increase from last year's $27xx. Of course I thought there was a mistake and then proceed to check all the numbers one by one with last year's paper. Policy numbers/categories all remained unchanged, except 3 numbers that each had increased by about 50 bucks. I phoned CAA, asked them about the situation, and got the following response:

"The 3 increased numbers goes for everybody insuring their civic. Our company did not set that number, but some government agency decided to raise civic's premium because there were too many accidents which civics were involved based on last year's statistics."

Lesson Learned: I drive safe. I try my best not to act stupid and damage my car...........BUT TOO BAD I DRIVE A CIVIC COUPE, I JUST GOTTA PAY MORE LIKE THOSE IRRESPONSIBLE CIVIC DRIVERS! SWEET! ACCORDING TO STATS YO!

Just why, why the !@#$ do I have to be responsible for something I did not do?

Ya dude I'm with Freedom. 4900+ a year for my Si in Alberta. My insurance dropped 1200 from last year too. If I was you I wouldn't bitch about it to much. Alot of people get raped alot worse. Canadian insurance is bullshit in general tho. BTW how old are you and what model civic?

Sucks to be driving a popular car.

More people crash them, so it's more risk to the insurance company.

Totally unfair to you, but if 1/10 people wreck their Civic coupe versus 1/50 people wreck Car B, logically it makes no sense to insure them for the same rates.

*shrug*

Have you tried State Farm and/or Economical Insurance? They have given me the best rates in Ontario.

Try PcFinancial Insurance. I did a quote, and got myself $60 less a month! $60! (that's 720 a year!)

And... a lower deductabe, with satalite help, and a whole bunch of extras that I didn't have at $60 more.

I'm 24 (Totally sux when I'm just one year away from the magic number), but the car is insured with my parents as well. Otherwise if I insured just myself I'd be on the same boat as you guys ~$4000+ per year.

I drive an EX, and apparently EX is pretty much the same rate as SI for many insurance companies when I was firsting shopping for insurance.

All in all, this sucks.

that's tight... just switch your insurance provider...

or u can try gettin some quotes from other insurance companies and going back to CAA... ask them to match it or you're leaving.

Im just over 30 ... had one accident back when I was 19 and the person put through a claim .. im paying $400 a month for this car insurance. I asked why and they said that it has to do with Civics in general are high theft vehicles, 2 it is a known street racer for young kids. Obviously im paying more for an SI the other models were $200 cheaper a month. But I understand that the 4 door SI is cheaper, if anyone has a 4 door im curious what there paying. ..........

And I hate to say this .. but insurance on imports are more.. in north america I could have got an SRT4 or
Cobalt SS/SC and pay $150 a month cheaper .. I asked if I bought a TSX thought it would be the same and is was going to be about $200 month. It unfortunately makes me constantly think of selling my car for something cheaper on insurance.

I guess like everyone else said.. change providers..
you gotta understand... every company in this world is a business. It is always competitive and more importantly when coming to car insurance is price competitive.

Just call another company for a quote.. if it is higher.. tell them about your OLD contract with CAA.. and if they can even beat the old quote u'll switch. Someone will bite..

and I agree... Belair direct is pretty good.
