Flat Tire FTL

So I went out to lunch with my buddies today, and I come back to the car, and one of my friends points out that the tire is low. I scoot over to a gas station, and pump it up. I then swapped it for the donut, and upon further inspection, it's got a screw right smack dab in the middle of the tread. I was pretty pissed. I got home and my dad was freakinggggg at me about it, and according to Canadian Tire the tire is ruined because I drove on the sidewall, and I need a new tire. 200 bucks people!!! Heres the pics of what happened, let me know what you think, is this totally my fault?!

LOL i work at COSTCO's tire centre. and i fix my tires for free.. but yea we get sidewall damage alot from people that drive on it flat, its just due to friction and flexing on the weakest point on the side wall. if they are stock which no, because SI don't come stock with winters, then yea you have to buy a new one, but if you bought it from us at costco, it would be pro-rated, which means that we will replace the tire w/ a new one but you have to pay for the amount of tread u used. so its cheaper. PROBLEM NOW!! we are out of winters...
