Having Trouble Starting In The Cold
Does anyone have trouble starting your 8th Gen Civics in the cold? At 7am I start it up and its been having some trouble. I cranked it once for almost 5 seconds. The starter is doing its job, but it just won't fire up. Then I started it again and it worked fine. This is the second time it happened and I am concerned. All the other cars beside me start up fine but mine.
It was about -4 outside, so I can only imagine what will happen at -15 and below.Should I bring it to the dealer to inspect? Would it be covered by the warranty? |

After warming up on cold days mine will fluctuate sometimes when sitting at a light. Twice I have been at a light and just gave it a little rev and the rpm's hung around 1500 until I hit the gas again and they went back to normal almost like sticky mechanical linkage Last edited by 06blaksi; 12-08-2006 at 07:56 AM. |

Mine takes a few seconds to start up as well. Might be because it sits for 5 days without being started usually.
Im pretty sure I've read some other threads of people complaining about the same thing. Bring it to the dealer and see what they say..... |

They say you should try not to run below half a tank of gas in cold weather, something to do with more room for water to form/ice to form or something.
Someone earlier in a different thread mentioned to turn your ignition key to "on", the one just before start. Wait for the dash message to come on, then try starting it. |

Both of mine (Si and EX) start just fine, although the Si doesn't drive too smooth until it warms up. Most K20 car's have the same problem I've heard.
Turn the key to the ON position and leave it for a few seconds. It gives the fuel system time to pressurize. You could even switch to synthetic oil as it is less suceptable to the cold then regular oil. |
