i believe tinting rear lights is legal in california, however they need to show RED when you brake.
Front license plate is a must in california. Cops dont really care about the front plate for nicer cars like bmws n etc. Your best bet is just to have it on so you wont be hassled with it later on. going to court is a btch for it. trust me. I wouldn't tint my tail lights unless my car was blaack... the blackout look. good luck |

I was thinking of getting the rear tailights blacked out and even had a great price but all my friends were telling me of there recent run ins with the P.D. If you do risk it get the film or tint. I had a bad experience with the spray application back in the day.

Got rear ended! Would my insurance company blame my tinted taillights?
"Easy" Removal for headlight/tailight smoked out tint? Legality aside, it's not a very safe thing to do. You're reducing your visibility to others, putting yourself and other drivers at an increased risk of a collision. I would strongly suggest a call to your insurance company to let them know what you're doing this. Hopefully you'll still have a policy at the end of the phone call. |

I don't think it's too harsh man. I agree with the statement about a competent driver (they should be able to see a car even with no lights on at night) but it's a sad reality that there is a large percentage of drivers out there that are NOT competent. That includes the driver that rear ended one of my now permanently disabled parents stopped waiting to turn at 40mph. Reducing the effectiveness of your brake lights is just a terrible idea.. you want people to see you as much as possible. If there's one thing I've learned is that when in public, you've often got to cater to the lowest common denominator, if only for your own safety/sanity. This is exactly one of those kinds of cases. Suit yourself if you disagree though. It looks MAD TYTE YO.

I havent had my front plate since the 2d week of ownership. Thats over a year and a half ago and 68k miles later. I got pulled over for no plate once but they didnt give me a ticket just a warning. I still have no front plate. As for the brake light tint I just dont like it. You can get hit by someone at night that is either drunk or sleepy cause itll be harder for them to see you.

rear taillight i think you can get pulled for it. but as long as your light as visible from like 1000 ft away you should be fine at court if some cop decides to pull you for it. as far as front license plate goes i havent gotten any problems for that and i have gotten pulled over twice because the cop thought i was running a aftermarket exhaust. even if a cop were to pull you for a front plate, it just a easy fix it ticket.

i have my rear taillights tinted with limo tint in KOREATOWN LA and never had a problem with it. I also have a 08 si i bought 2-3 monthes ago and been pulled over like 4-5 times and they never said anything about it. the front plate you better keep on there. thre front plate i got 4-5 tickets in 3 weeks from freaking meter maids and those are $30 bucks and $40 after.... unless u like shelling out money for no reason leave the front plate. doesnt look bad with it on haha i got used to it. now i prefer it.
