CA State Referee Certification Help

***UPDATE***
For those who are interested or in the same situation, I finally went to the CA Referee. I put my intake back to stock and placed a silencer on my Greddy Ti-C. I was given two tests. The first is a decibel test, which I easily passed with a 91.1db (quick and hassle free). The second was the smog test, which lasted for about 20 minutes. The technicians and referee was pretty cool and chill. The whole session took about 30 minutes and I passed the two tests. I paid a fee of $8.25 for both of the tests and certification. I later called the court and spoke with a clerk to see if I can mail the certificates in. I was told that my ticket wasn't in their records for now and encouraged to call at the end of January to see the next steps (I was given an extension btw). So yea, that's my story. It's not as dreadful as I had imagined...

So long story short, I got pulled over by a CHP during my trip to LA and slapped with 2 CA State Referee fix it tickets for intake and "modified" exhaust. I have an Injen SRI (with no carb-legal sticker), which I will put back to stock. My question is about the exhaust. I researched quite a bit on the exhaust matter on this forum and it seems that my aftermarket exhaust Greddy Ti-C is legal. It isn't that loud and should be under the legal db. Should I be able to fight the exhaust fix-it ticket? What would happen if I bring my car with the stock intake and my Ti-C still on? Please help me.

BTW, the only modification I have is the intake and the Ti-C catback and I live in San JOse.

just bolt up your stock axle back before you go to get it inspected and tell the ref you have the HFP axle back if they mention anything about the sound.

Has anyone here been to a state referee and passed the inspection with an aftermarket exhaust? I'm still deciding whether to remove the exhaust or not..

About 3yrs or so ago, I got pulled over on my 94 Accord and got 3Ref. fix it tickets. One for my intake one for my headers and one for my exhaust. Intake was an Iceman the headers were DC and exhaust was a Greddy evo...I got a certificate for Greddy thats said legal to gave on the car. I also had the carb sticker for my Iceman intake and for the DC headers... I took it to court and won..... The certificate stated that it was under 89 decibles or something like that.....
When I first took it in to a ref and show'd them the certificate from Greaddy and the carbs stickers to see what they would say. They told me to take it to court. That I would win and I did...

Where did you obtain the Greddy certificate from? As for going to court, how was the process?

I call'd Greddy and told them that I got a REF ticket..They just said for me to fax a copy of the receipt from where I got my Greddy Evo. Then a few days later I got the certificate from them..

As for the court I just made a court date and presented my case to the judge..I dont have my accord, but I still have thecertificate from greaddy..I can send you an email of the certificate if you want to look at it...Just send me a PM with your email,if your interested to look at it..

So I called Greddy to see if they have any form of legal documents I can bring to the Ref/court and they said they stopped providing documents since they got in trouble for that...Any ideas how I can present my case now? Please help.

just bolt your stock exhaust back on. takes less than an hour, and does not take much mechanical inclination to get the job done.

If greddy advertised the exhaust as legal when you bought it by law they need to provide you a slip that says its legal. or thats false advertising and the state will go after them not you

Go completely stock for the ref. Dont take the risk of it not passing since the ref is about a $100 to get your car checked by them. You dont want to have to go back again (waste of time and money). I had issues with intake and exhaust like you did. I went stock, passed and got the cert. saying I was in legal limits of California. Took it to court and told the Judge I was in legal limits of the state (showed cert.) and i was out of there in 1 min. I believed the ticket they wanted me to pay was like $575! Didnt want to take any chances. Better safe than sorry.

wtf? owned?

i didnt have to pay for them to check it when they thought i had a header, just the cert. which is like... $10?

than i went to CHP to get the ticket signed for lighting...

then when went to the court clerk and pay $15 for processing...then im done

Hi there Guys! i got the same problem as ir3ka and i got pulled over in Laguna Hills here in orange county by a CHP. He gave me a ticket with 2 infractions. 1st is the 27156(b)vc modified emissions state referee cetification required and 2nd is the 26708(a)(i)vc front window tinted. The 1st one it has a sticker at the back of my ticket stating in Bold letters: STATE REFEREE CERTIFICATION REQUIRED - NO OFFICER SIGN-OFF. (Section 43012 California Health and Safety Code.) Vehicle must be removed from the roadway immediately and may not be driven until in compliance.(Section 24004 California Vehicle Code.)

What should i do?
