a retrofit is when you use projectors built for HIDs (i.e BMW, Mercedes, Lexus etc.) and put them into stock headlights like the Civic. Those projectors are not built for HIDs so there will not be a smooth cut off and there will be some glare. I'm not sure if those headlights use different bulbs, but the Civic uses 9006 bulbs, which is the HID kit you should get. I can't really tell from the picture what kind of kit that is
edit, i see you got that pic from the for sale thread, so it should fit the stock headlights if the seller says, but not sure about those projector headlights Last edited by Carbonyl; 05-14-2008 at 01:57 AM. |

yea its a different size. stock is 9006. for those headlights you bought, im pretty sure its h1..but u prolly wanna confirm with the seller. also, 8000k is like really blue...more blue than white...theres another thread about HIDs and the different color temperatures. i remember them saying anything over 5000k gives you less visibility the higher you go. but ive seen other ppl with that hid kit so it must be pretty decent

anything higher than 4300k, which by the way is OEM temp on cars equipped with HIDS, is used for show. 6000k is pretty blue with some white. 8000k is basically blue with slight hint of purple, everything else is just ridiculous IMO. 4300k gives the best useable light output.

This is one of the sets of 4300k I had with RX300 projectors
![]() If thats blue enough for you, then you should go with the 4300k. Otherwise 5000k if they have it or 6000k should be more of a blue color. I do not really endorse use of plug and play kits and prefer retros, but thats just my preference. The projector in this case might actually make the picture more blue than it seems. from an E55 projector ![]() Might also have something to do with camera settings as well...but I'm not entirely sure. You should check out the Lighting forum and see which HID kit is best served for you. Lots of people have posted pics of their kits and you can compare. Not all kits are made the same and therefore 6000k might not be as blue as some other kits Last edited by Carbonyl; 05-14-2008 at 04:36 PM. |

H1 may be the bulbs used in those projector headlights. Popular retrofit projectors these days are the TSX projectors, S2000 projectors, and hybrid TFX(Infiniti FX projector with a clear lens swap from TSX or others). They use those and put them in stock headlights. Any other projector built for HID will do also, like the BMWs, Lexus, Mercedes, and Audi. These projectors use D2S bulbs. Again, I recommend you looking in the lighting section for further information. There is loads of information and even a tutorial for the retrofit. Here is a complete guide on the process

if you want to see some nice retros done and some pics of how the retros look check out customlightz page. they have a TON of FG pictures that will give you a better idea of how they look in the BACK as well as the front. In most of their photos, you can see that the lights use D2S bulbs (as someone previously stated). I have 6000k bulbs from Customlightz with the CMSII done. Customlightz has come a long away and have definitely discovered what most other retrofitters have not (ie. CSMI and CSMII).
Customlightz is a sponsor on this site and they provide awesome customer service. Prices may seem high for the cost of a retro but it's well worth it since the final product is pure quality. Members on from this site that have purchased their products will tell you they have high quality craftsmanship in their retros. |
