Stolen FG1

626 Area:
This is the first case of 8th gens. getting stolen that i have heard of. (if any other stories please fill me in) My boy just got his fg1 stolen this week out of his own drive way. Heres the story: He arrived home about midnight and fell asleep around 2 in the morning. His father woke him up around 5 in the morning and asked where his car was and at that moment he knew it was stolen. The cops told him it was about the seventh or eighth civic stolen recently. They said the ignition was not tampered with in all the civics that were stolen, and it was most likely an inside job having someone from Honda make the keys for the thiefs. They found it in an alley in Pasadena about four days later. The civic that he drove was completely stock in and out but they still took everything you could think of out of the car; tires, seats, radio, speakers, visors, spark plugs, and even the CARPET! damn did him dirty... We both live around the corner from a Honda dealership. Today i was trying to find a way to cover up my VIN number in the front windshield but it is pass the dash and under the windshield. how do i get to it? I have LO JACK on my ride and i have a brake pedal club and even going to buy a steering wheel club to at least slow them down or having it to be a b*tch to jack. and does anyone have anyother ideas how to protect our civics?! Just giving everyone the heads up!!! ill keep you updated...

yea im going to try to stick a paper in there but i looks as if the dash ends at the window right before the VIN number shows. its like its only little section is blocked off from being covered.

that definitely sounds like some crook at the dealership by your house. probably jacking parts, and restocking them in their inventory. a lot of the guys that work at the dealership by my house look like pretty shady characters to me.

because with enough resources its possible to have keys made for your car just through the VIN number.

These punks wouldn't be able to get a key made on the inside without knowing the VIN. Although it's kind of odd that they were able to steal it because doesn't the key have to be programmed into the car before it starts? That would mean they unlocked the doors manually and programmed it in his drive way or something.

I dunno if you guys have noticed... but our VIN numbers are on every part of our cars. I.E. all our glass windows, fenders, panels, etc. well at least for the 08 models...

^vin on the glass? thats not factory...but maybe an option the dealer did for you. its called vin glass etching and its a "security" feature.

as for the rest of the locations that the vin is, you need to unlock the car and open doors, hood or trunk to get to the vin....then theh alarm would go off.

unless you live in NY and the vin is printed on your registration displayed in your window...then there is no point to cover anything....vin is ALWAYS displayed.
