but hiding your VIN to prevent someone from making a duplicate key at a dealer is b/s. I don't know if someone told you how that's how cars are stolen but it isn't. It's a myth and its been disproven, with a link on this site too. In addition, covering your VIN is illegal in some areas (so I've been told) and would check up on that first. Other than that there are many other places to find your vehicle's VIN besides just the dash. In the end you can't even use it to make keys so there's no point really in worrying about it. Lojacks, the club, garages or whatever else will help you. Hiding your VIN won't. Nothing stops flatbedding it either. Even AWD cars - some ppl claim that their car will lock or an alarm will go off when its lifted, yet I watched an S80 with all that go on a truck and it didn't make a peep. It scared the owner though (this was for a broken transmission). Last edited by wing_gundam; 03-17-2008 at 05:56 PM. |

my buddy told me and i read on here if you have a manual...you can leave ur car in first..and that prevents the thieves from towing it....does it work with flatbeds too? bc they can cut your break line..and just push your car?

Car was towed. As said above the VIN to key is a myth. Furthermore, Honda keeps record of duplicate key requests.
And like people have said above, towing a car does not look suspicious at all. People think it's a dead battery or no gas. Best defense is good insurance and a low deductible. |

Mount a fuel cut off switch in your glove box or any place hidden out of view. flip that baby whenever you park her. they'd have to steal everything from your driveway. The obviously took these to chop-shops then dumped it. my friend has the fuel cut off on his 99 Si. He's actually from new york. He also had the "club looking thing" for his shifter. It locks it in reverse and you can't shift it out of gear without the key for this lock. It didn't look so goo though. You mount the "club looking thing" direct to the frame and he had to cut a hole right by the gearbox.
And the first gear myth...no the can tow you even if you leave it in 1st. I worked in a parking garage when i was in highschool, and they have these wheels they put your front wheels on so none of your tires are touching the ground. They did have trouble though when peoples front wheels would be turned completely one way or the other. Last edited by 08SiWVU; 03-21-2008 at 02:00 AM. |
