CA State Referee Certification Required!! Any Advice? Thanks
Hey guys!!!
I got pulled over on my way to the porter ranch car meet thursday. They wrote me up for: 27150(a)vc- Loud Exhaust And 27156(b)vc- Modified Emmisions, State Referee Certification Required I have an 08 FG2(Civic SI) with an AEM Cold Air Intake, DC Racing Headers(No Cat), and a 3'' Cat Back Exhaust. On the back of the ticket they put a sticker that says no officer sign off and that my car must be removed from the roadway until in compliance. What can i do so i can get a State Referee Certification? Any advice or input would be helpful. Thanks Again!! |

First of all, remove all the mods that do not have a CARB sticker, ie your header and exhaust, and replace them with your OEM. Your intake should be okay as OEM does have a CARB sticker, but the CARB sticker must be on the vehicle.
Then, call the number on the back of your ticket and setup an appointment with a smog referee. |

Hahah, that's not true. I got rolled in by the cops at a meet and we had to pop our hoods. One of my friends has a Comptech SC, and his sticker saved him from getting his car impounded.
![]() My Comptech header and AEM V2 had CARB stickers so they let me off as well. |

i got an exhaust ticket for my car too. it only has the injen cai and greddy evo2 catback. stock cat and header.
did he look under your car for cats? if so then your gonna have to remove the header and put stocks back on. if he only wrote you down for loud exhaust then you would only get a decibel check, but in this case i don't think you'll get away that easy. when u get the stock back on, set up an appointment with a state ref near you and they'll run ur car on a dyno like thing and basically smog ur car to see if it's legal. after that if it passes they'll put a sticker on the back of your ticket and you just send that in, make sure u get a copy of it though incase u ever get hassled by cops for it again, just show them the sticker(keep it in ur glove box with registration n insurance). the choice of keeping the aftermarket exhaust is up to you. if you think it's under 95db then keep it on n they'll write down the name of the exhaust on the sticker. mine was 85.2 db for the greddy evo2.
