For screening magnetic particles in your engine oil, take a look at FilterMag.

On my last vehicle (which was also aluminum top and bottom), there are STILL magnetic particles that come from other non-aluminum engine parts (sleeves, etc.). I was curious and tried the filtermag out. I cut open the oil filter after an oil change (leaving the filter mag in place) and did find a light coating of magnetic particles stuck where the filtermag was. That sold me on it.

Magnetic type of filters/catchers have been around for a long time. I had one on the bottom of my oil pan on a different car. I think they have a purpose, and are worth the few dollars they normally cost.

The differential cover on my Trans Am came with one. My ring and pinion were steel, you should have seen the cake of metallic crap thet was built up on that magnet. It must have been 1/2" thick at least. And after only 20K miles.

The filtermag looks like it attaches on the outside of the engine body so it is reusable, how would a manget that is inside the oil, which will get ferious particals on it be a better idea? Wouldn't it be worse, since you'd waste time every oil change scraping that metal crap off the magnet, and then re inserting it??? Just a thought...

The AT drain bolt comes stock with a magnet, why do you need two?
Also for the oil filter you can use magnets from old hard disks or speakers. Moreover it is more feasible to use the magnet in the tranny, but in almost all aluminum engine you wont catch aluminum shavings with a magnet....
