Guide: Installing Injen CAI for R18 Civic

Alright, ask and you shall recieve...here's the guide to installing your very own CAI on your civic.

Here's what comes with the Kit:

What you'll need is a pair of pliers, a hex wrench set (the specific size I'm unsure, but it's in the instructions), a phillips and flathead screwdriver, and a 10mm and 8mm socket and driver.
---
1)Begin by disconnecting your battery, positive first. Use the 10mm socket to loosen the battery tie-downs. You don't have to remove the bolts all the way, just enough to loosen the tie-downs and then you can unhook the tie-downs from the battery tray. Then remove the top battery holder, then battery, and finally the bottom battery tray.

2)Next unscrew the two brass 10mm bolts holding the mid section of the intake to the bottom of the battery tray. Once done, remove the mid section of the stock intake. Make sure to remove the sensor prior to removal. Image shows after bolts were removed.

3)Remove the top of the filter box, and remove the filter. Then unscrew the vibration dampening mount (brass color) just to the left front of the filter box.

4)Disconnect the vaccuum hose from the crank case and from stock intake. This brass piece also runs a line of coolant, and will have to be removed as well. You will lose a little bit of coolant in the process, but you will lose less the cooler the car is. You will lose an ounce or two at most.

5)Take the longer thin tube from the kit and using the stock clamps off the stock tubing, connect the two coolant connections.

6)Loosen the stock intake box c-clamps (I think? They secure the intake tubing to the throttle body). It is now free, but you will have to wiggle it out of that tight space. I found that twisting it the left, and turning it will help to aviod hitting the various hoses and reserviors in there (this engine is cramped). When everything is removed, your throttle body should be exposed.

7)Now comes the fun part! (Sarcasm ooozes...) Time to remove the bumper. I won't go into super detail about this since there is already a guide on how to do that. DIY: Horn/Bumper Removal

8)Remove the front-driver's side wheel. I don't need to explain how to do this.

9)Loosen the remaining vibra-mounts from the stock intake, and it will basically fall on the ground. There are 2 remaining, one is on the side of the frame, and is pretty obvious, but the other is on the back-side of that side fram rail, so you'll have to search with your hands.

10)Once you've disconnected the stock intake entirely, you can now get excited to start putting your new Injen Intake on your super car. Take this time to organize your parts and make sure you haven't misplaced any screws or pop-locks (those things holding the bumper on from the bottom side).

11)First, connect the 2.5" hose to the throttle body and slide the c-clamps over the hose and the throttle body. Use the 8mm socket to tighten this very tightly. Make sure it is on evenly around the throttle body as this is an air seal.

12)Now screw down the new vibra-mount onto the place where you removed the vibra-mount from the stock intake box. You'll want to loosen the nut on the mount so that the new intake piping can lean against it.

13)Make sure the throttle body hose has the other c-clamp loosely around it so it can secure that hose to the upper part of the intake system. Take the Air sensor off the stock intake and screw it into the upper intake pipe. It fits in only one direction.

14)Insert the upper part of the intake into the throttle body coupling hose and align the mounting bracket with the vibra-mount that you just installed. You'll also want to install the larger and shorter hose from the crank case to the intake pipe. It should be almost a straight line. Make sure you use the stock hose clamps to secure the tube to both the intake pipe and the crank case.

15)Lightly secure the vibra-mount nut over the upper pipe mounting bracket. This will be adjusted later. though the kit does not supply it, i recommend using a washer inbetween the nut and the mounting bracket.

16)Now get on the ground and bring the filter, lower pipe, coupling hose, c-clamps and remaining vibra-mount with you. Afix the coupling hose with the c-clamp to the lowest part of the upper pipe. There should be about 1.5 cm overlap to make a good seal. This image is a view from above....

17)Screw the remaining vibra-mount into the side of the frame where you removed the vibra-mount off the stock intake from the lower portion.

18)With the other c-clamp loose over the coupling tube, insert the lower intake pipe into the coupling tube and lightly secure using c-clamp and 8mm socket. Align the pipe against the vibra-mount, and loosely secure the vibra-mount nut down once aligned.
This image is a view from below...

19)Take filter out of bag, and place over the end of the lower intake piping. Secure by using the supplied c-clamp over the end of the tube. Do not over tighten, but do make a air tight seal.

20)Your car should now look like this:

21) Now go back and make sure nothing rubs or bumps anything else, and secure all the c-clamps on the coupling hoses, filter, and throttle body. Also, tighen down both vibra-mounts so that when you shake the intake piping with your hand, they do not move.

22) Re-assemble car by replacing bumper, and replacing battery. Make sure you let the car idle for about 15 minutes before driving it to let the car get adjusted to the new intake.

23) Enjoy the **** out of your newly added 5-10 hp. Also, take a look at the last line of the instructions that came with the kit: "Congratulations, you have now finished installing the best performing intake on the market!"

A little ego-testical of them, no doubt, but totally accurate!!!

Nice write up! For those of you who were asking if it can convert to an SRI, check out his pic under step 16. It shows where the tubes disconnect and you might fit the filter if you were to convert it (still not 100% sure it can but pretty damn sure).

This works on an auto? (as i dont see the clutch bottle in ur engine bay)

Would the filter block the foglight area?

*On the Install Manual it says for 1.7L?

Yes this works on an auto. The filter doesn't interfere with the foglight area whatsoever. In fact, I have factory fogs installed and the Injen CAI installed and the filter is fine.

Oh and the install manual stating 1.7L is a typo.

You can purchase this from autoanything.com. Search for the 06 SI SRI and in the section where you choose which engine type you have, click on the EX. Then add it to your cart and you should see the part number (SP1569P, which is the CAI for the EX)).

It should cost about $200 plus tax, shipping is free. There is a coupon (I think it's SAVENOW that will take off about 15 bucks or you can call them directly and haggle over the phone for a discount. I got mine for $180 from them and with tax (they're in CA so I have to pay tax, so do you) so the total was like $195 shipped. Got here FAST (about 3 days).

I love it, very warm below 3000rpm, then loud, then very muscular...not ricey at all. For the price it was a steal, and since the quality is good too, I'm looking forward to seeing what extra power this thing will provide.

It has definately smoothed out the power band, so it's not as abrupt with power when shifting gears.

Yes it is an automatic. Got it for $194 (includes tax and shipping) shipped in 3 days...installed that day/night. You have to look for the injen SRI, and it's the one for the base model civic (I don't know why they don't fix their site, but their error is your gain! On Nipponpower.com, it's $275)

It looks SRI convertable for those with water issues...I don't see why it would not be. I'm not going to conver to SRI, so if you give them an e-mail they'll let you know usually reply within the day.

Thanks all for looking, I hope this helps with your future installs!!!!

It's easier to install this without the front bumper than with it...trust me! Plus removing the bumper is really easy!

EDIT: Btw, Injen makes only one CAI for the 06 civic line, and that is for the R18 engine (non-Si). The kit part is sp1569p, and regardless what the autoanything people say, it is the CAI as long as you make sure you order that part number. Let me know if there are any other questions class.

autoanything (from what I'm told) will ship to canadia, but it has to be an order of above $500. Unfortunately this is just $300 shy of that mark, but PM me and I could drop ship it to you if you have it sent to me. Let me know!

Don't know if these videos help out much, but I took these a few days ago (if you didn't already see them in the other Injen thread)
