I did that the other day, but I popped the hose right out. It sounds mean! only at WOT and at about 3000rpm it wakes up. Any power differences are probably in my head...

What if you were to put Xs Apexi filter on the end of the box where the snorkel was attached. Then take the filter out of the box?

It would be an non-invasive way of creating a stock SRI! I wonder what the gains would be.

The gains would probably be most noticed in the dB output from your car and how often you're encouraged to give it some gas to hear it

What would be the difference in the two? Same thing he's already done. The point of a sri is to get less restriction. You'll still have the restriction provided from the fins and such in the stock airbox.

i did this a few days ago and it gets loud at around 3000rpm mostly in 3rd gear. does everyone else get a really loud deep sound from this?
i was wondering if it was actually from the airbox or it was from the vibrations from the hose being tucked under the airbox where it was supposed to connect

Like I said before... you notice the sound more because:

1. You have reduced the distance from the intake entrance by close to 66% to you ear...
2. And you get a little extra noise by effectively removing your resonator

If anything, I would pull the resonator out... cut the box apart and just use the short piece that passes into the area behind the bumper (eliminating the hose back up to the fender well)... the resonator really doesn't have much to it and isn't all that too restrctive... I was kind of mad about wasting so much time taking mine out and replumbing the tube to the fender... it was a waste of time... :)

I wonder if you get any gains if your remove the stock cai tube and replace it with a apexi or fujita air filter then remove the filter thats inside the air box?

Prolly something like the Powerchamber?

You should try it. See if you could use the HKS filter.
