I dont think using the stock lower box is gonna affect much, if any. If I remember correctly, the Mugen intake is not totally smooth on the bottom section. Advantage of the Mugen is that the volume is bigger in the box and the piping is all new. The stock lower piping is 3 peices with one of them being a ribbed rubber long elbow. All the connections and the ribbed section doesnt make for smooth airflow. The T1R makes the airflow smoother but I think the Mugen takes it a step further.
I would like to see this installed withthe battery taken out but until someone buys it and does a DIY install I dont think ill get the pic.

so is this consider a cold air intake or icebox? the design is not much different from other CAI with possible hydrolocking (my biggest concern for staying away from CAI.....yes i'm paranoid about hydrolocking).

The upper portion of the box, we have increased the volume by amost 30%. When the intake volume of the air box increases, there will be air restoration within the expanded area when the throttle is OFF (closed). When the throttle is ON (Open), the restored will be delivered to the combustion chamber quicker than usual. We will be dynoing this intake shortly but we are looking about +4whp gain. The idea of this design is to improve the throttle response and acceleration instead of power.

Sounds good, thanks - would you be willing to sell just the scoop which goes to the lower half of the airbox separately? PM me if so, thank you

Look at the pics of their intake. Now assume it would suck up water. The only way it's gonna do that is if there is a complete seal of water around the inlet. Do you realize how deep the water would have to be to hydrolock that? I wouldn't be driving in that anyways. I would be out walking around and shortly thereafter, swimming. That water has to be deep. If you need to. Take a look at it and then go out with a tape measure and look at it on your own car and measure how deep the water would have to be.

So let me get this correct. The intake would come with:
A. Carbon upper airbox lid. B. Lower intake scoop to connect to the stock bottom half of the box. Why didn't you go the extra mile and make the surface area of the box larger by making an upper and lower half? I am also wondering if you could use the CR-V tube from the X-intake to connect instead of the Si tube... |

The major advantage of CF is it's strength to weight ratio compared to metallics. As an added benefit, CF trumps metallic materials in terms of heat dissipation. But using CF for the purpose of intake tubing seems to me as more of an aesthetic upgrade, as rigidity takes a much lower priority under heat dissipation and weight respectively. Therefore, I still choose plastic over CF for intake application (cost/benefit). I would like if someone with more knowledge on this subject to chime in.
