HFP Muffler Question

I jes installed the HFP muffler on my car but
the flange part screws on properly, but it looks like
the screw wont go thru the hole and the springs
arent tight. i took it to a muffler shop and he told me
i had to clip a bit of the hfp muffler (make the hole bigger)
so the middle end can come out the other end and be stuck against
the other side.. if you get what i mean ..
question is. is what he said true? that the screw part that i labeled
has to go thru the hole and stick up against the flange of the catback?

any help appreciated , thanks
before i go off and spend $30 tomorrow

not true, mine looked just like that before i took it off, there is a gap in between the flanges. i really dont know what to tell you man, there might be a little play because they are springs, they are gonna move somewhat. there is a gap so the exhaust can move a lil bit.

well, the screws are all the way in, but
the springs are super loose.. that they rattle..
when i took it off the springs were tight and
looked like this

springs all scrunched up and stuff..
the apparently the hfp muffler flange is bigger than my catback so
the hole is a bit off, but the screws go in fine.
