custom intakes thread

I thought since I will be starting mine his weekend I would have people put up pics of their custom intakes. I know NitrousG35 is working on one. I will be posting pics of what i've started this weekend. mine is similar to the T1R and the Mugen RR intake. Ive got alot of the parts from the honda dealer. that I'm using. I will be posting part numbers and such with it aswell.

Just checking into see how your intake is coming. I have the lower box completed and an finishing up the top lid. They will go for some surface primer so I can make a plug out of them. Then I will make a mold incase I want to make more. Do you have any pics of your progress?

I currently have a setup that consists of...

CR-V Intake Tube
Extracted MAF Housing w/ unmodified vanes
Amsoils EaAU Filter
Ghetto-Fabricated Mount

Much like an X-Intake but with unchanged vanes, no extra connector between the filter, and an Amsoil filter instead of an Apexi, not to mention a very ugly mount.

I have a X-Style modified MAF sitting around but I don't know that I want to install it.

Nathen, sounds good. Necessity is the mother of invention. Many of us want to think outside the box, so our ideas force us to come up with something on our own. I am excited to see new ideas and new concepts. If the manufacturers won't give us what we want, then by golly, we will have to make our own. Hurrah for American ingenuity!

Yea its completed I just dont have a digital camera atm. I also wanna get my car on the dyno to test the stock filter vs the k&n drop-in im using. Its just as loud as any SRI or CAI ive ever heard. I also have a scan tool which I will be using to gather some other data. I will be checking temps with and without the cold air tube attached and id like to get my TBS and gaskets installed to check all them again to see if anything changed. aswell as the TB coolant bypass, and do the same again. Its just getting nice enough outside to work comfortably. I will try and post more about it soon.

I just finished water testing my setup. It took me some time to figure out all the possible ways where water may get inside. I will build something now so there is no way water will get in. I will probably still drill a tiny hole on a bottom just in case. Also, i wanna add more holes to cowl area. I will probably post pictures on monday or tuesday. I have some party to go to in a few hours ...hopefully i will finish at lest water drain part.

We did one on my brother's car which is an Si too that used the stock intake arm a 6in velocity stack and a 6 in filter. All I have to say is that this is by far the loudest intake I have heard so far. and with parts its cheaper than other intakes out there.

getting closer to making mold. have to sand lower air induction box (modified to make things more simple during mold making) and clean up top air box lid. Both are in final stages before surface primer (needed for mold making). will get status pics up today.

here are some progess pics of my custom intake as i promised. this is going to be made as an add on part. I will make the part out of fiberglass then chop stock air box and join two parts together. Keeping stock placement of maf. These are still in rough form and still have a bit of sanding on them. let me know what you think.

Air box lid

Here you can see size difference compared to stock

Here it is mounted to stock air box lid

Lower induction box(don't mind the wood. I just used it as a skeleton structure for fiberglass.)

With factory piping attached

Top and bottom air box together

Both parts side by side

^ Civic 93, well done on that intake. I love it. You have some mad fiberglassing skills. I love how the factory clips are used to attach the cover to the base. I also love that lower induction box. Kudos to you for a job well done! I can't wait to see the finished product.

I have an EX and I want to take out the resonator and either let it suck air from where the resonator used to be or add tubing to connect it to the other side up to the battery. Any suggestions?

I wish I had mad fiberglassing skills That looks very shade tree Mugen. A little red paint and some stickers and no one would know the difference. Good stuff. Good stuff.
