CAI > SRI for performance since the CAI supposedly gets colder, denser air. cold dense air > heat soaked air. SRI's are good for quick throttle response and sound, but only really good for 1-2 HP in optimal conditions (cool days, engine bay is staying cool). They look nice too. But as soon as it's hot, or if you're in traffic, you can pretty much count on performance loss due to the fact that the engine is breathing in a bunch of crappy, hot air. Downfalls of CAI's are loss of low-end power and the dreaded hydrolock - rare but it happens. Most will say the filter has to be submerged in water for this to happen. But if it happens, say byebye to any help from Honda. Also, the install on a CAI usually takes more effort than an SRI. Most don't fret over the low-end loss since our engines stay in the high part of the RPMs during auto-crossing and drag racing. I personally have never used a CAI. I used a DC Sports SRI on my Prelude - I liked the sound and look. I don't think I gained jack in performance. But for $180, it was fine. |

I like the Injen and the Fujita, but I think since our cars have an MAF an AEM intake is better, because the oil from the filter can foul out the MAF sensor. But those that don't know how to clean them can really screw them up and they aren't cheap parts to replace. It usually takes just a little contact cleaner, but some people will spray the MAF with a high pressure blast from the can of contact cleaner, and it can brake the fine little wires inside.

So whats up with the Injen CAI for the si, there are some threads going on about some guys who bought a injen sri for the regular civic but are getting the CAI!!!! THis is from http://www.autoanything.com/air-inta...A2577A0A0.aspx
SO Does anyone know about this, I want a CAI for my si just like the r18 got theirs and for $185!!! Is this a mistake on their part or are the cai going to be $185 for the si just like for the r18? |

I don't think that Injen has released a CAI for the SI yet, but I just got the CAI installed on my R18 2 days ago. I did get it for $180 (not including tax, with tax it came out to $194 shipped for free) and I don't think it was a mistake. I think it's also convertable to an SRI so when it becomes rain season here, I'm going to try to switch it to a SRI. I posted a video of it in action in the other Injen thread if you want to hear how it sounds on an R18.
