I believe that Casper's Electronics indicated that their O2 simulators were for "off road use only". However, they were marketed for on road usage, thus the intervention by the EPA. The EPA does not want people to either remove or disable a catalytic converter.

From what I have gathered, they were punished for selling electronic devices that could trick the ECU into thinking the gas readout was fine when in fact the cars that were using the system had no catalytic converter at all. This is a clear violation of EPA policy.

So their mistake was to sell a device that will make the ECU thinks that everything is in order in the emission department.

Hopefully we can make a custom one with defouler spark plug sockets. Just if we want to remove the CAT and turn off the CEL.

wow this is pretty dumb. in my case its kind of working against itself, because originally i was going to go with the vibrant and hiflow cat, but now i will go with an actual race header where a straight defouler will work. oh well.

get the angled defouler. It's better. Especially with a 2.5" pipe.

Do you have the header on your car already?

noo not yet. im going to place the order in a few days. lol i want to wait for someone else to try the weapon-r defouler first. it seems like its only an issue if you attempt to put the defouler in after you installed the race header, i hope thats the only issue. because i may go ahead and buy the weaponr defouler.

You can do what you want, but have you ever smelled an Si with a race heater w/o a cat? They stink to the high heavens. I was at a meet last year where one of the members had a DCSports RH. Man, the smell. I knew right then and there that I would only use a RH if there was some way to use a cat, albeit a more free flowing one than stock.

I got the Vibrant RH because it is OBD I compliant. My exhaust smells the same as stock. What you could do is to do something akin to what NA06si did. He used a Buddy Club Race Header and a shorty Magnaflow hfc. He didn't need a defouler as the Magnaflow hfc met emissions' testing and there were no CEL's. BCRH & Re-Flash *Pics & Video*

Good point Zeuce. The less problems I have with emissions or CEL's, the better I like it. I am not into fixing continual problems. I want a setup that is worry-free.

Go ahead and put it on before you put the header in then.

lol i think im immune to the smell now which is pretty bad. before my si i had an rsx and it had no cat. it smelled like ass, but i got used to it.

im assuming i would not make as much gains with the magnaflow hi flow cat also.

This, from Strutking: We have voluntarily discontinued them due to the legal circumstances that had happened to Casper's Electronics

Casper's Electronics has had a Federal settlement with the EPA. They can no longer sell O2 oxygen sensor simulators. Here is the article that I found. It is from last July.

Now Casper's Electronics was apparently selling electronic devices that could fool the computer into thinking that the gases going out the tailpipe were in compliance, even without a cat. Apparently, Strutking doesn't want to run afoul of the law even though they were selling non-electrical devices.

As long as the product is sold for "off-raod & racing" purposes I don't see how the EPA can persue any legal action. They cant control what the end user does.

They have done this to an international customer of mine only he spent $2k+

I don't know either. The EPA must have felt that using an electronic O2 simulator would obviate the need to run a catalytic converter, therefore creating greater exhaust emissions. I believe the reason that the EPA took decisive action was that the product was marketed for cars "on road" rather than "off road".

That's it as far as I know. I know sctuned were supposed to start selling something. Not sure if it was the weapon r or not. They said they were waiting on some parts, so it leads me to believe that it's their own version.

Hey guys, I would highly recommend SCTuned for anything you guys need. I was having a small problem with my tracking number but a PM to Carlos over there and everything is on schedule. I should be getting my header tomorrow. yay. They have great customer service. They responded faster than any other place I've ever dealt with before. I will be buying all my stuff from him in the future.
