I think I will do a write up about air temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, air density, air velocity and and air pressure and their effects on the performance of a motor.

Also, we should have a discussion about materials as some materials have a propensity to absorb heat while others reflect heat more.

There is actually a lot of science out there about air intakes and what to consider when designing a system or modifying one.

Honestly I was all for Cowl Induction, but it's more hacking up of the car than I wanted. I don't mind hacking pieces like the stock airbox, but the cowl is stepping over the line lol. Now I just want to figure out the best way to setup the current intake =D I'll post in a little what I want to do. I think I have it figured out now honestly. I need to relocate my battery though

The stuff is expensive, but you gotta pay to play. You'll find that foil in the engine bays of pretty much every top tier race league on the planet... except Nascar of course.
I hope it lasts!! Thanks for the link

I just wish I was friends with Gordon Murray. Can you imagine the stuff he could design for the Si? He'd probably do an entire car out of carbon fiber.
^ I would love that.

Oh yeaaa lol

Every time I'm at VIR (who's store sells a ton of CDOC's catalog) I ALMOST buy some of this. Now I want some more than ever. I'd be interested to see what how different the intake air temp is.
What exactly wouldn't last on it?

Dan, the hacking up is actually quite minimal. Only a very small piece of the plastic/metal shelf needs to be removed. The wiper cowl needs to have an opening at its base, but if you wanted to return to stock, it is pretty inexpensive to do so as a replacement cowl is cheap.

Dan, conceptualization and visualization are the engines that drive creation of things. If I told you all the nights I have awakened with ideas in my head about how to make cowl induction work, it would make your head spin.

The problem is, as Matt said, is that I am a little short on real progress.

Ha, I quit work a little early yesterday, went out to my car and stared at the engine bay for a while but I almost felt like I had moved backwards realizing how I've had zero actual progress either... now I can't decide between trying to copy the GTI intake design with a battery re-locator and hood seal or try to devise a plan to make the cowl work... it's the metal shelf that has me discouraged with cowl induction.

I've been meaning to go to Lowes/Home Depot, and try an scout out some parts for the build. My car's in the shop right now getting the 3rd gear fix, and I probably won't have my car until Sat morning sometime.

The metal shelf only needs a small amount to be cut out and would be covered by the plastic shelf and rubber molding if you want to return to stock.

I'm planning on just buying replacements to hack up. They can't really cost that much. Another member here (who happens to be tearing apart my tranny right now) can probably get me a discount to boot

Well my concerns are a. I don't have the tools to cut the metal shelf and b. it seems like that shelf works as a trough to have rain water filter down to the sides rather than pouring into the engine bay so whatever space is cut, it would have to pretty much be sealed to the sides of the cowl induction tubing which means that cutting the metal shelf almost has to be the last step so you know exactly how much to cut...

During the time I've spent mentally planning this intake, I've always intended to line whatever notch I made in the cowl area with some kind of rubber to keep it somewhat watertight.

Holy run on sentence Batman!

^ Same here with the metal shelf part! I will be making the GTI style intake, I'll have a DIY when it's all said and done. I have the perfect setup for it too, I'll explain then.
