Question Skunk2 70mm touches under FA5

I have done a search on this but im getting different different results some people say the hangers are hitting and causeing a rattling sound, but the pipe is literally touching the underside of my FA5. I read that people have cut the hangers but i dont understand how cutting the hanger bars will change the position of the whole exhaust. when i put the hangers back on i slid them all the way to the back, so i dont see how this will help. but everytime i start the car i can hear it beating the underside of my car, will this cause a problem in the future? should i even worry about this?

here are some pics explaining about cutting the hangers.. not sure if this is where yours is touching from what you've described, though.

DIY: Modify Skunk2 exhaust hangers

cut the hangars on the muffler section and then if it still does it, then we'll deal with it at that point. Mine did the same thing.

Acually this is not where its hitting the underside of the car. Its hitting where the most drastic curve is in the longest section of pipe, like it needs to be an inch farther out.

My comptech did that. I would see if an exhaust shop could bend it a little or try some heat tape.

My LSD does the same thing, apart from it hits the chassis maybe 10" after the cat/exhaust flange.

It didn't do this with the stock header, so i'm wondering if its because of the flex pipe on the Vibrant RH

so you dont think it would be a problem if i warapped some heat tape around it? I mean its not going to cause any problems you think? Just a slight annoyance.

I just installed the 70mm Skunk2 on my FA5 and I have no contact issues. Very good fitment and bumper alignment.

Have you even cut the hangars yet? How do you know that it's hitting the car? My comptech melted some of the sealant on the bottom of my car where it hit, which is the same place you're describing. I just want to make certain for you.

I don't think it would necessarily hurt anything if you left it. I wouldn't want it to do that however.

Pretty sure the last time I read about this with the skunk2 doing this, someone took a hammer and gently curved the metal it's hitting against on the chassis until it was a comfortable distance away from it.

You have to get under the car and mark all the spots in the bend that the exhaust sits close to the car and then drop that section of the exhaust and use a hammer and beat on the car to make for extra clearance.

well im going to post some pics of where it is hitting when i get off work today ive been in contact with skunk2 and they told me they had one other instance of this happening but that was 2 weeks ago now and they dont return calls or e-mails. I also took it to a muffler shop and they said they could beat the exhaust to make it fit but the whole point of aftermarket exhaust is the flow and if they beat on it as much as they have to for it to fit, it would have a dent half as deep as the exhaust itself. and If i beat on the car it would be quite a bit a beating and I'd really like to avoid beating on my baby.

Im really confused as to who to ask for help or what to do the heat tape was literally worn off where it hits in like 3 days, from it vibrating against the car so much. Its really makeing an un-godly amount of racket, and when my 10month rides in the car the silencer goes in but it still makes my ears ring. Unless im goin 80mph on the highway or going downhill it vibrates like mad.

anyone have any ideas? or who to talk to at skunk2 that will get something done?
I really dont want to have to put my stock back on and have thrown 450$ away.

i had this problem its near the header tehre is a support beam on the underside of the car. mine was several cm away and whenever i would hit large bumps or accelerate too hard it would bang the underside of my car.. i solved 95% of the issue by replacing 1 of my stock hangars with a stiff polyurethane hangar i replaced the second hangar down from the header. this is what i used and it fit fine. kartboy dot com i dont see the mazda protege hangars on their site anymore just contact them and see if they still carry them or have any left.. you need the 12mm ones.

now the only time it hits is when i launch hard and i get wheel hop. hopefully the ingalls stiffy i ordered will solve that. hope this helps.

Acually it clears that spot just fine and the hangers are great a great length.
but you have gave me an idea to replace the hanger closest to where the exhaust hits which would be the one by the resonator. If I could somehow find a polyurethane hanger thats 1/2 inch longer.

It will probly help alot when you see the pics i had to put it on a lift to get good shots but i forgot my thumb drive at home so ill post them when I get off thanks everyone for helpin me out. 8thcivic FTW

well the kartboy hangars are slightly longer than stock but real stiff so your exhaust wont move. i had them on my mazda 6 v6 i had headers and an injen exhaust that exhaust stayed planted lol. u couldnt move it even if u wanted to.

Go read posts 11 and 12. You have to mark those spots, take off the exhaust, and gently hammer them back a bit. Don't be too hammer-happy when doing it, just gently curve it back so there is clearance.

i suppose. i wanted that to be a last resort but i suppose if i try to be gentle it should be ok.
