Help with performance option for LX Sedan Auto.

Hi all,

I just traded my 03 Mustang GT Vert for a 06 Civic LX Sedan Auto. Just in case anyone is wondering why... 30-40 mpg and 100 mile comute every day going to work and back. As for the Auto, got it since it does 40 mpg on the highway which is what I do mostly.

I am not expecting anything like my mustang (12.9 1/4 mile with every bolt on and 100 shot N/X) but would like a little bit more than what I have without loosing any MPG. Are there anything like for the mustangs like headers, CAI, throttle bodies, cat back exhaust, Computer chips, Transmission shift kits, etc.

Would like to maybe start with a Computer chip/Programmer, shift kit for the auto transmission, CAI, and exhaust if someone makes them.

Thank you,

Rich

Its pretty typical for aftermarket companies to ignore the sedans when it comes to performance. Now dont get me wrong, there are a number that make parts specifically for the sedan, but not much. On the other hand, in terms of actual motor performance (ie.- not exhaust, header) you will take the same parts as the coupes.
With that being said, its going to be a while before there is anything worth while for our cars. Everyone still has a big hard on for the Si and could care less for the other models. Our time will come though.
For performance gains...the throttle body wont net you very much...in fact nothing is going to really net you very much. I would concentrate on a CAI when it comes, then if it comes for the sedan, an exhaust system and header and call it a day.
Enjoy the car though. Mine should be at the dealship any day now. I know you are hurting from the lack of speed. I just sold my low 13 second hatchback for this car. But I wanted a new car with a motor that doesnt just guzzle my gas. Getting 200miles on a tank in a Honda wasnt much fun.

Has anyone ever made computer chips/programmers for the civic? I tried searching but did not find anything. I know they have superchip and diablo sport for the american cars but since this is my first import, I am not very familiar with the aftermarket parts even for older generations. I looked at the SI but since it only got 23 - 32 mpg, I opted for the LX. Needed a good work car that got great mpg. If I have the need for speed, I still have my 78 Trans Am 6.6. However, at 10.5 mpg, I try not to play too much.

Also, has anyone ever made shift kits for the autos in the past? Again, I know they help alot with the auto mustangs.

Thanks,

Rich

You should pretty much take all that knowledge about the mustang, and throw it out the window in terms of mods for your civic. They dont just make a chip that goes for your civic that gives all kinds of power. There are companies that make programmable ECU's...Hondata being one of them. The problem with this is...it isnt available for the 8th generation civic yet.
This shift kit that you are talking about...you mean a torque converter? Or something that actually goes into the transmission that makes the auto tranny shift faster? Either way...no, nothing like that for a Honda. I think they made a torque converter for the 7th gen civic way back in the day, but no one really used it because of the extensive work that needed to go into installing it.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will learn as I go. Had to learn all about diesel engines when I got my wife her TDI bug. I guess I will just hang out on the site and wait and see what comes out. Might pick up a K&N filter for now.

Here is a off the topic question but I am lazy and don't want to open up a new thread. I got my windown tinted yesterday at the Honda Dealer since I worked that into the deal and when I asked if they would tint the two little windows in front of the steering wheel, I was told that they could not tint any windown in front of the steering wheel. Is this correct? Has anyone gotten the two little windows tinted without any problems?

Thanks for the help,

Rich
